Wow! Lots of numbers out there. Last week I bought a 2014 Trail in Super White: KDSS, navigation, Entune Apps Suite, remote start, all weather mats, chrome exhaust tip. We settled on a price of 36,900. I put down a significant down payment and was financed at 4.3% over 72 months for the rest. The MSRP was 39,702. The best part of the deal....I did the entire transaction over the phone with a dealership 3 hours away. The salesman drove the 4Runner to me that night!
Now to sell my '05 Sport (I don't wanna, but gotta).......

I am not a savy negotiator and was short in time in my stay in Socal but I think I could have gotten even lower price if I had more time. But I'm very satisfied with I ended up with.
MSRP is $41,830.00
Internet Special Price is $39,647.00
Invoice $38,533.00
Price $37,900.00 $633.00 under invoice or $3,930.00 off MSRP
Non-negotiable fees:
Doc Fee $80.00
DMV Fee $336.00
Tire Fee $8.75
Electronic Filing Fee $18.00
Sales Tax (Based off 8.75%) $3,323.25
Total OTD is $41,666.00 12/28/2013

Mossy Toyota. I followed some of your posts and you are looking for a TP. I do not think Mossy has a TP now. You are at a good starting point being in socal already. I would recommend trying Cerritos Toyota and they have them in stock. I was initially quoted $38300 which is below invoice already but I think you can do better than what I got from Mossy Toyota. Even Carlsbad also TP in stock quoted that they will beat the $38300 but need to negotiate in person. Just make the dealer to bid off each other and you will do good. Read up on 4r2014 posts in this thread which really help me a lot. Good luck!

Hi guys!
I'm so glad I found this thread. I am planning to purchase a 14 4runner TE and I am up in Canada. Just building it online on toyota.ca, including 3M protection, hitchball, taxes and all the costs, it came out to 49,870.87. I shopped around in several dealerships in my city and so far the best price I got was 45186.xx OTD + lifetime oil changes. Is this a good deal or should I try and get more
Thanks

I went on www.carcostcanada.com and offered $500 over invoice. They took it plus threw in rust protection and window tinting.

Right now i'm trying to negotiate with a few dealers on buying a 2014 and i'm trying online. Honestly, I feel like none of them are budging. Am I doing something wrong?
I say can you do so and so under invoice and they all say they can't do it over email and that's it. I try to pit them against each other and say so and so offered me this much and they tell me that's a great deal go for that dealer (except it's not the color I wanted).
Do you guys just straight up email/phone the dealer and ask if they will take XYZ OTD?

edit: Picked it up today. The MSRP was $43,538 but when I got there I noticed some dealer added options (tint, carpet mats, paint sealant, lifetime powertrain warranty, paint sealant) that put the final sticker price to $45,131. They of course still honored the $38,072 price that we had agreed upon so I basically ended up with some free dealer added options. Ended up scoring the car for $7059 off sticker price. Couldn't be more happy with the car and the purchase price.

Maybe stupid question, but had to ask... I'm assuming this is OTD 38,072?

bruindave I was in the same situation. No one would move beyond what I was quoted on truecar. Would do the same thing and tell them xyz dealer is offering me this and they would say to just go but it there then. haha
I think it just has to do with the region. I am in St Louis, MO and don't think they negotiate too much beyond invoice. But maybe I am wrong

i just went through this same process two weeks ago and picked up my 14 SR5 Premium w/ 3rd row and remote start last thursday. i sent an email to the internet sales people at 6 of my local toyota dealers telling them what i wanted and i would buy from the dealer that gave me the best price. none of them had the exact truck i wanted so they all needed to go and trade for it or order it. all 6 either emailed me prices or called me to discuss over the phone. i took the best price and negotiated it down to what i felt was a good deal. sticker price was $40,629 and i got it for $36,006 before tax, title, etc. i had two dealers at that price and one that was about $100 more. so they are willing to deal in the cleveland,oh area.

i'm in los angeles so i read that a lot of other people are able to do it through the internet/phone down here.
if they say we can't give you a better price on the phone, then should i just say "then i can't come in thanks"??? out of the 7-8 dealers i've contacted so far only 1 seemed to be willing to negotiate a little over email/phone.

Yeah if you are a serious buyer and they are a reputable place, they will do most of their negotiations over the phone. I've had several give me a hard time but I obviously didn't buy from them. I knew their best price before I ever walked in the door and even did a little better once I got there.

We have two dealers in our town and they weren't interested in talking price before they had an exact vehicle we were interested in buying. Neither wanted to order one for us. Using TrueCar.com, one of the three quotes was $1,000 below invoice so I contacted them. The dealer was 100 miles away. They would order it for me at that price and I now had a quote in hand too. Our two local dealers said it's a good deal, I should take it and they could not match it. A few weeks later I found the exact vehicle 300 miles away and negotiated the same price and they would deliver it. We negotiated to pick it up in exchange for them leaving the running boards on. We didn't end up using TrueCar.com but it was an easy way to start negotiations. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again but I guess it depends on your area. Change your location around and the prices will change.
Found a dealer in SC that was pleasant to work with and responsive with calls, email and texts. Very different from our local dealers so it made it worth the drive.
