I initially was looking for a Trail Premium without KDSS or any sort of the extra add ons from port like the paint protection plan. I really didn't even want the rear sliding cargo tray. I got a quote of $38,500 from TrueCar and took it to my local dealer. The first obstacle they ran into was getting me a black one, they were going to have to order it. Then they were unable to find a Trail Premium that didn't have the KDSS. I told them I wasn't in a rush so their compromise was they'd give me one with KDSS for the $38,500 we had initially agreed upon. Then the service manager asked if I'd be interested in the one they had on the lot for a "stupid price." I ended up walking out of there with the nautical blue Trail Premium with KDSS, LED daytime running lights/fogs, chrome running boards, and paint protection for $36,000.

Here was the message the sales manager sent to the dealer I was working with after I asked if they'd go $35,500.

The way I read this was the dealer was giving you a TEP with kdssfor 38.5k Before taxes and fees is still a pretty good deal to begin with.. But if they were gonna give you that out the door. That is crazy awesome. But none the less 36k OTD or even before taxes and fees, that's a super slick deal. Congrats!

I'm not sure why most people on the west coast seem to be getting a great deal for their 4runners and people in northeast/east coast are not getting the same deals. Does anyone else notice this. I also think it depends on the dealer, some want to deal while others know they can hold off and get what they want

Makes it so hard to compare deals when looking at OTD (taxes and fees vary) pricing and how much under invoice it was (invoice/kickbacks vary dealer to dealer).
So here is mine.
2016 TEP KDSS White (only add ons were roof rack cross bars and carpet floor mat package, no sliding deck)
Price $38,900 + TTL + $425 Trucking (MSRP is $41,405)
Here is my story. The White TEP in SoCal has been virtually impossible to find. I've been in contact with over a dozen dealers. There are only one or two listed here or there and when I would call on them they would be sold or the dealer was selling at MSRP. I hit dealer after dealer trying to get a white TEP or TRD Pro and over and over again got shut down. On top of it, when I would ask if it was possible to order it, all the dealers would say that they only get what Toyota sends them, and the only way for them to get something different is to trade. And since there were little to no White TEP available, dealers weren't willing to trade either. So I finally went out of state. I contacted a couple dealers in both Nevada, Utah and Arizona and finally struck a reasonable deal with Camelback Toyota in Phoenix. Customer service was by far better than any I had dealt with in Cali. Ian was great and I can actually say that I would recommend him.
BTW, I did find a couple TRD Pro's, both dealers said that they were not negotiating. One dealer was $3k and the other was $5k over MSRP. Also, I almost picked up a used '15 Inferno TRD Pro w/Gobi/Sliders, but at the last minute the guy changed his mind on selling... had already agreed to his asking price of $43,500 (my wife was hot for the inferno). Bummer dude, your loss.

Was just there...
I was just at Camelback Toyota looking at at 2014 White Trail Edition, not Premium that they also wanted $38k... their pricing just doesn't seem to make any sense. It was a low milage car and drove great but why the hell would someone buy a used 2014 for basically the same price as a new 2016? I believe that they are using the used cars as bait and trying to force folks to upsell to a new model, but they are not really going down in price on the used ones, which just doesn't make any sense. I have had the same thing happen at 2 other dealers in Phoenix area. Maybe at the end of the month they will change, but I think they are posting a nonsense high price on the used models with no real thought of selling them.

Picked my limited earlier this week. Actually feel like I got a great deal. Stickered for 47,800 and I bought the 7yr b2b 100k warranty (fully refundable if not used), and it came with lifetime power train warranty from the dealership. I paid 47,299.21 after tt&t otd

Not sure how I got them to do it but found a white 2016 TRD Pro on the dealer's allocation list and got them to discount $1000 off sticker> I know that's not great but with the current demand and low availability, i was shocked to get any off. The great news was I was in month 28 of a 36 mo lease on my 2013 black TE w/o kdds and got $6000 over my buyout in trade, soooo new white trd pro and check for $5000 (put $1000 down). thanks to my trail for holding soooo much resale. By the way, my trail only has 19,900 miles and should be on their site "Butler Toyota" in Carmel, IN....secret, they have $31 k in it if you're looking for a babied low mileage trail.

I think it just has to do with demand. People who have them don't sell them and most people don't lease them. Supply low, demand high equals stupid used car pricing. Ironically, I was having such a hard time finding what I wanted new that I got to the point of considering a CPO TEP with 20k miles and dealer was firm at $37k. Really $2k for 20k miles... really?

Finally got my new baby
Finally found a pretty good deal on my 2013 Trail Edition 4Runner, talked them down to $35500, 2013, 30k miles, black, KDSS, sliding tray.... but here is the kicker, it came with a Gobi roof rack with rear ladder, Pro Comp wheels, Totyo Open Country 285 A/T tires and.... wait for it.... an ICON lift, appears to be at least stage 5 ICON with front and rear remote res. I don't think they knew that lift kit was worth more than $5000. I kind of wanted a 2014 but all and all it would have been impossible for me to buy a 2013 Trail with that low milage and probably would have cost me at least $7000 to add that stuff. Pretty damn pleased about how the ICON suspension with KDSS rides.
