We are in the process of purchasing an SR5 Premium at MSRP plus $175 doc fee. I started looking last week for one and a dealer in Vermont got back to me the other day and stated they had one not spoken for that was due off the ship from Japan on the 13th. He told me it would then be another 2-4 weeks before it would be on a truck from NY up to Vermont. Figured I had some time to sell our 2016 and work with the bank.. got the call today saying it arrived at the dealership and to come down and do the paperwork... wth, guess I will be scrambling the next couple days.

Aftercalling around my area (Tennessee), looking for Lime Rush TRD Pro, most dealers wanted $10k-$15k over sticker. I was able to pick one up for $4k over.

I am picking up a Lunar Rock Trail Edition (not Premium or TRD) for MSRP from Dalton in N. Platte Nebraska. They have been awesome to work with so far.
I called them because another member on this site recommended them. They do a lot of out of state sales.
My local dealers (I called over a dozen) laughed at me when I asked for the Trail, which is the one I really want. So I am going to go grab it. I got completely lucky.
The only thing it doesn't have that I want is Heated Seats, and I can slap those in in a few hours. This package is perfect for me, and these come in great colors. They area just solid.
A cheap pair of flights to Nebraska, and a little drive back home across the Midwest on a warm and beautiful Memorial Day Weekend, and I will have gotten the 4runner I've always dreamed about in my preferred color!
Edit: I’ll be ditching the Yakima rack immediately. Wind noise was a problem on my 04 sport; the previous owner had one. I took it off in three days. Other than that it’s perfect

Local Toyota dealer here is still bare if any new 4Runners and most new cars for that matter. They have a handful of used 4Runner’s, trucks etc that they line up along the street side so their lot doesn’t look so empty.
Same goes for the BMW and Lexus dealership.
It might be a while before things get back to normal.

Yeah, the guy setting up my sale said he has three new vehicles on his lot, including mine.
Strange times.

Should be Picking up my fifth Gen5 22 TRD ORP at MSRP next week. I personally now the one of the dealership owners. His best guess is things are not going to improve with supply until 24-25. They are currently selling everything within days of it being allocated to them. Then customers are waiting months for a build date and then shipping.

2021 4Runner TRD Pro
A Minnesota dealer we were at last week had a 2021 TRD Pro 4Runner with just under 12,000 miles on the odometer. Their listed price on it is $67,998!

Nightshade model is gone, unless you're talking used...and yes, to answer your question.

Just drove this back from N. Platte Nebraska. Great experience, and very nice weather with not too much traffic.
It’s perfect.
She had 10 miles on her when I picked her up. I have never owned a new vehicle so I am kind of blown away.
I pull up at 4 am after driving all night and across the street is a TRD in Lunar Rock. We had a laugh the next morning, now we are acquainted. Great guy!
Trail Special Edition. MSRP just over $44,000.

Thought I had you on a technicality as there was precisely ONE (1) unsold Nightshade left per CarGurus. However I went to the dealer website (Nalley Toyota of Lithonia, GA) and VIN JTECU5JR7M5246902 was no longer there.

Picked up a SR5 Premium 4WD after a few weeks wait for MSRP + dealer added window tint, wheel locks and useless 'appearance package' (aka world's most expensive tube of wax) at Toyota of Cedar Park in Texas. This was the best deal I could find around the Central Texas area. Most other dealers were marking up 3-5k and weren't even trying to pretend it was for anything valuable (Toyota of North Austin was adding $3500 for '24 month maintenance and 3 year warranty, which is obviously included in the MSRP).
Horrible time to buy a car, but we were in a situation where we needed one.

No discounts below MSRP, ridiculous "Dealer Adjustment" extortion fees, almost impossible to add options over configurations that come in on Dealer Allocation vehicles, etc., etc., etc....yeah, it's a baaaaaad time to buy, but we had to as well. The GOOD part is we got a great vehicle with all the latest bells and whistles, instead of settling for an older, used model without them. It's the last of it's breed!

I looked at used and it was worse than new. Prices at or above new. The same stupid add-on games were being played there - $999 for 'nitrogen filled tires', $695 for window tint on a vehicle that wasn't tinted, cleaning fees, inspection fees, etc.
The lack of supply has tilted the power heavily to the dealer, and they know if you don't buy it - someone else will. I just hate the lies and being treated like I'm an idiot. At least the dealer I bought from was upfront about everything, and there was some value in the add-ons.

Everyone said it was crazy to even look at any late model Used because of the insane pricing. I didn't believe them as used has always followed the "rules" of depreciation, until now. That's why we now have a 2022 instead of a 2019. And no worries about vehicle history, rust, or weird smells, or the usual things about a second hand car.
Our dealer was great, no games, straight forward, no insane "dealer Adjustment" $3,000-$10,000 gouge over MSRP. Couldn't be happier!

How is that even legal? Just call it a Market Adjustment like every other dealer and stop being a shady piece of s***.
I really hope this market puts car dealers out of business and online sellers like carvana step up. I think everyone is done with the dealer BS, if they weren't already.
