2014 grille mount for front plate

I've seen another thread here where someone used zip ties (yikes!), but it gave me an idea to do the same thing, albeit more securely.

So, we picked up our '14 today and I stopped on the way home at Auto Zone and picked up a plastic license plate mount and stainless steel self tapping screws.

This was fairly easy.

First, use a small flat head or trim removal tool and pop off the nineteen fasteners that hold the shroud over the radiator in place. Removing this gets you access to the back side of the grille.

Here's a handful. If you accidentally lock any of them back down (I did), simply find a hard flat surface and press the tip down until it releases.

Here's my front plate and the plastic plate that was on the truck when I picked it up. I'm using it as a backing between the plate and the plastic grille. May not matter, bud I'd rather have plastic on plastic than metal on plastic.

And here is the frame and screws I picked up. Five bucks for the frame and three for the SS screws.

Now, withe the shroud out of the way, I simply lined up the plate and plastic backer on the front of the grille and placed the frame on the inside. Once you have it more or less centered (there's really no vertical option to screw up), thread one of the top corners a few turns until you feel the tip of the screw coming through. DON'T TIGHTEN! Then do the opposite corner so you have a diagonal. At this point, make your left to right adjustment using the dimples in the bumper that would normally have the front bracket (or the holes if you removed the bracket) to center the plate left to right. Once you're centered, put in the remaining two screws and tighten. I wouldn't go too tight as you could probably crack the grille or strip the self tap. Photo is the back side of the license plate frame I used looking down from inside the opening from the shroud. If you look closely, you can see the shiny tips of the screws through the frame. This is tightened down.

Now, put the shroud back on, place the nineteen fasteners back in their holes and press them down to lock (double check by trying to wiggle them), close the hood and admire your work! So much better than stock, IMHO.

Sorry, haven't been on the forum in a bit, but no, not a single issue. I even towed a motorcycle trailer this summer from where I live in southern Wisconsin to western South Dakota, through 100 temps and nothing.
