Help... 2014 Limited Side Mirror Puddle Light Led Mod?

Hello T4R Forum.

I just picked up a 2014 Limited... Wanted to change my side mirror puddle lights to leds. Followed steps used by other forum members but ran into one problem. On the 2014 Limited there is no screws behind the side mirror as seen in the DIYs. Has anyone attempted this mod on the 2014 limited yet? If so can you please advise.

Thank you
moto

I haven't done mine yet, but I believe you have to attack it from the back. In other words, the entire painted plastic cover pops off the mirror assembly and you can see inner workings of the mirror. You just need to apply some pressure and pull back on it...comes off really easily. The older generations required you to pop the actual mirror off, that does not work in this case. When I have some more time I may do a write up, just been too busy with work to really attempt this. Let me know if you figure it out first!

Search for post by @ROBSCOOL , I remember he recently posted a how-to. You basically yanked off the back plastic cover to access the screws instead of the mirror

I can't remember what it was called or I would link you, lol sorry.

the side puddle lights are the same on all model right? just turn on the car and move the mirror all the way in and just put even pressure on the mirror and pray it towards the door and thats it. its simple, i've been doing on all my car that has side puddle lights. Should be only 2 screws

Yes.

Like others said, just yank off the cover, undo the two Phillips screws, twist out the bulb holder, replace the bulbs, put everything back, and you're done.

Are these swappable to a non-limited model? Anyone have the details, cost?

TIA

Just be careful when yanking the covers off that you don't crack off the retention brackets (if that's what you call them) at the top of the plastic housing. They're really thin and I ended up having to glue one back on and lost the other completely!

In case you don't have them, buy one of these cheap plastic tool sets and pry away from the opposite side of the mirror (pry the cover that's color matched to your LE).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Don't use a screwdriver or a metal pry bar since you will surely scratch and potentially break the plastic trim piece. These plastic ones are very rigid and have a very sharp edge that can slide easily between the black mirror housing and the color matched trim piece. I purchased these tools to change the puddle lights on my 14 LE and they worked great.

Yep - same here on my '13. Followed the directions posted around here, and ended up cracking two of my driver's side mirror tabs when upgrading to LED Puddle Lights. Passenger side was fine with the same exact procedure (even did the Passenger side first!), but was still a bit of a "pull" to get it off, and the removal "POP!" was unsettling to say the least.

Ended up replacing the Driver's mirror insert (like $55?) with a new one a few days later as Hot Glue by itself wasn't strong enough to keep the cracked one in place, and I didn't want to use any stronger adhesives for fear of future removal issues...

Seems like there should be a "Less Stressful" way (less stressful to the plastic tabs and to the person doing the removal! ) to remove the mirrors on the 13' and prior models. Proceed with extreme caution!

Do you mind sharing where you found the insert? I may have to replace mine eventually. Did it come painted?
