Bad Idea Mods

I was reading a thread earlier about aftermarket cold air intakes and @1engineer 's response which is a replay of many similar posts by himself and others and I thought "We need a thread on modifications that are a bad idea"!

This is that thread, I'll get it started:

1). Aftermarket cold air intakes - I can't say it any better than Greg: Afe MagnumFORCE Stage-2 PRO 5R Intake System

2).

Why? Depending on vehicle use this may be a good one for trying to preserve the paint from pin striping.

If from an aesthetic standpoint, to each their own.

Agreed, I haven't done it yet, but I plan on it. If pin stripe was a color, thats what color my 4runner is lol.

Its cheap & effective, adds little to no weight. I would say full body wraps are a bad idea, especially for anyone that wheels their rigs.

HID in standard housings.
Lifting over 2 1/2"
Any Body Lift
Modifying a component that you do not thoroughly understand
Installing a bug shield to keep bugs off your windshield
Determining you are smarter than the engineers that designed the 4Runner and:
Changing oil and grease type and viscosity
Changing recommended maintenance intervals on "yours or your dad"s experiences"

Any wheel that needs a spacer just to fit

The only reason I put a bug deflector on was to act as an air push into the hood scoop for the additional 25 HP...

all the other shit I'm guilty of on in the list....is for the most part.....everyone else's fault

Yeah and aside from the horsepower gains Pat mentioned, there's also reducing the coefficient of drag by channeling the air OVER the roof line; thus increasing fuel efficiency. Don't hate us cuz we're tree huggers

I got mine to reduce rock chips on the leading edge of the hood

But I need that to park in the low-emitting vehicle parking spaces.

Cutting in front of cat for a louder sound. Surprises me with how many people do this.

CB Antenna Mount - Diamond 550L

I tried using a Diamond 550L to mount a Firestick. The rails on my TE are too big for the mount and the mount does not have enough room for a removable antenna cable.

I`ll use the Diamond mount on a cross rail for a dune flag instead when needed.
