My 4runner seems very slow
Granted i'm coming from a much faster vehicle, but my new 14 4runner trail is a real turtle. It always feels like it it towing a huge load. Its almost like Toyota has programmed everything for gas mileage at the expense of spirited acceleration. I have to really gas it to get it to kick down, the engine / tranny are not willing partners. My older 05 runner felt much more spirited. Is there something i'm missing? Right now i'm at 463 miles so it's still new, but man i'm disappointed in the throttle response / acceleration so far. Is there a way to remap this thing to give better throttle tip in or am I in some sort of eco mode than can be switched? It seems like the eco light is just a reminder to let you know when you are driving in a way that conserves fuel. Any help is appreciated.

Drive it in manual shift(sport) mode for awhile. Run it thru the gears, see the difference, also when in auto mode kick it over to 4th. This bypasses 5th gear. I only use that over 65mph or so. And shut off the damn eco light. My 4R has tons of pep the way I drive it. Just bad gas mileage ;)

Slap a T4R.ORG sticker on it that should speed things up!
if not I hear TB spacers and CAIs work wonders!

How can you even ask this question? Yeah, you are missing a sports car and replaced it with a BOF truck! Do you think every vehicle should perform the same as the other one? Did you test drive? At all?
Did they not have the search function on their forums?

Since all the sarcasm spots are already taken (usually I get at least one) I'll explain;
- This subj has been discussed ad nauseum X 1000.
- No, you can't do anything about it except to learn how to drive it. Coming from a "snappier" PF, I was disappointed at first too.
- It's got plenty of power (for a V6) but it's higher up the tach and programmed for mpg eg early upshifts, sluggish throttle response. You'll have to learn how to demand its power by being quicker with the accelerator. Floor it and hold it someday.
Oh, and don't post about the CC, we know, we know.

Bingo. There's not much you can do about it to reprogram it, so I would just either get used to it or get used to driving in manualmatic mode because that's about as good as it gets.
Obviously it's going to feel like a turd coming from a sports car, lol.

actually i am glad its has a slower demeaner. coming from 10 subaru legacy that got me into too much trouble, i was glad to move into the 4runner. it has slowed down my spirited driving alot and my road rage has almost completely gone away since i am now the slow poke and dont care anymore who i piss off.

for new 4runner drivers coming from a car, my humble suggestion is to drive it slow on busy streets(at least) because, if your too fast and you have to brake suddenly, it does not stop as fast as a car, and you mind rear-end someone.
The one thing i find "surprising" or perhaps alarming is that having been used to the sedate speed and sound of the 4runner, I occasionally floor the accelerator, it gives a race car or high-pitched roar. is this normal ?
