Transmission Fill Level

Yes and there are two plugs in the trans pan, one to drain and the other is to check fill level. Toyota is fussy about checking the level at certain temperatures.

That is correct my 2012 Impala LTZ is the same way. My 2013 4Runner SR5 doesn't have one either. All the auto companies seem to be doing away with them however you can still find one on the Taco.

I went though the same thing when I bought mine. Here is what I learned, subject to correction by others on the forum, the transmission is what they call sealed but can be serviced.

The manual says replace transmission fluid at 60k miles under the special driving section. But not necessary for "normal" driving. I had mine done at the dealer for about $250.00 at 60k miles.

If you spend some time and search the forum you will find the procedure to do it yourself. After reading though it I decided not to mess with it myself.

It is a little more involved than simply draining fluid, dropping pan, changing filters and refilling. There are special procedures for making sure temperatures are just right and draining off excess fluid on a perfectly level floor and so on.

It is nice that the pan has a drain plug, and if you are up to it the job is probably doable but just not for me.

There does not seem to be a filter to deal with.

Note: I have serviced my own transmissions over the years most recently my 98 Dodge pick-up. But in this case I simply chose not to mess with it. Plus I have an extended warranty and if I did it myself and something fails before warranty is up I could have been screwed.
