Product Review: Thule 45058 Roof rack

In preperation of my Roof Top Tent showing up, I went ahead and installed my Thule Roof Rack.

Quality-9 The fit is perfect, the only thing that wasnt was the finish. I know some people will want a perfectly glossy finish. This had a few runs or rough spots on the bars, but I dont care about that. The plastic ends and the build quality are perfect. I like the way the pads are built that mount to the factory rails. The built in tool for tightening/loosening the straps is pretty trick too. It also comes with optional locks, if your worried someone is going to steal them. I like that feature too, even though I wont be using them.

Fit-10 To me this is either a yes or no question. They fit the awkward factory rails perfectly. They look good on there and are more functional than the factory cross bars.

Con: There is a bit of wind noise above 45 mph. The factory bars to me are silent. These you can hear at anything higher than 45 mph. Not horrible, but noticable. Doesnt bother me, but I know there are a lot of perfectionists on this forum, so it may bother some people. Again Im goingto have a RTT ontop which I know is going to make noise.

They also add a few more inches of total vehicle height. Im 6'5" and the rails are pretty close to as tall as I am. As I will only have these on with the RTT, this is not a factor to me. But it may be an issue for smaller people putting stuff up there or removing things from the rack.

Well worth the purchase price. Strong and rugged. I would reccomend these to anyone wanting to add more usability to their factory roof rails and rack.

You are going to put a RTT up there AND sleep in it? You might want to reevaluate your loads and materials.

until last year, i had the Thule 450 crossroad mounts on my TE factory roof rails, which stand considerably higher than the SR5/Limited/2014+ model rails. it was way too high. and i didn't like my rack so far back on the vehicle bc i couldn't use the lift gate with stuff on the rack.

i ended up doing the roof rack delete and "rolling my own" door-mounts using the Thule feet and 1/2 a Tundra and 1/2 a Taco fit kit. (Thule doesn't make a fit kit for the 4Runner—because OEM roof rails are standard.) it works pretty great, and now my fairing is forward of the sunroof so it's perfect for cruising with the top open.
