Incoming 2014 TE, Mod ?'s

Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking on the forums for awhile in anticipation of my incoming '14 Magnetic Grey TE. I love all the information here as it has aided me in making some of my equipment decisions, but I still have a few questions..

I would like to do a Stage I Icon lift and bring up the front around 2.5" or so and the back around 1" and leave a little rake. For new shoes I would like to run duratrac 265/70/17s on some Pro Comp 7032s. I've seen several pics of guys running around that same lift with 265s, but I'm going to be doing quite a bit of off roading at times in stuff like this back home in Wyoming, but that is 800 miles away if you get my drift...

This is one of our trails in the spring.

Am I going to light on the suspension and tires? I won't be driving highway too awful much outside of an 800 mile trip a couple of times/year

I'd like to stay away from needing UCAs, but I'm not afraid to go to 285s. I only drive 6-7 miles total to work everyday so I'm not really worried about mpg, but It seems that UCAs would be logical if going to 285s.

Thanks for all the help! I'm excited to be on the forum!

I don't have any input on your mod suggestions, but I do want to say that's an amazing trail! Congratulations to having access to those in your back yard.

Also: Welcome aboard, have fun with the truck!

Welcome to the forum. Let your personal style of wheeling determine your tire needs.

I run BFG AT K/O's (4th set) because even after airing down to 18 psi, they don't get damaged on the razor sharp scree rocks in Colorado. They also handle Oklahoma ice very well and wear like iron. It takes forever to wear a set out if you run them at 45 psi. They have a little sing on the road but not much and definitely not like MT's. If I didn't need the durability in CO and for them to get me there and back, I might consider something less.

Your tire choice is a huge part of your off-road experience.

I only lift to the minimum to handle the terrain I intend to wheel. When my 03 was new I took it to Flagstaff and Sedona and quickly learned it a a bit too low. I added a 3" Revtec lift to net about 1.5" and it was fine after that.

With my current BFG's on my 14 TEP, I'm siting close to the same clearance I had on the 03. I've already wheeled it and my clearance seems fine. So I'm going to let it ride until Lower Engineer above Hwy 550 dictates I need more.

I wouldn't worry about the normal 3" rear lift being too much if you've been considering that as an option. I haven't know anyone who regretted it. The truck really won't handle any worse, but you will probably need UCAs to get it to align well.

I do know many who have regretted the noise and mpg drop of mud terrain tires though, so unless your terrain needs an MT, try to see if a good AT will suffice.

Thanks for all the help and guidance everyone!

I'm looking forward to getting this thing ready to climb around the hills. Doing UCAs is something that I would love to avoid but I might as well do it one time and do it right.
