Fix-A-Flat
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm curious if anyone has had any bad experiences from using fix-a-flat tire filler. I love the idea of being able to fill a flat tire up with this can of stuff and having it fill in any air leaks.
My issue that concerns me is that it will add unnecessary weight to the tire and throw the balance off long term? Especially if applied to the same tire more than once. If anybody has any thoughts on this, your opinions would be greatly appreciated! thanks - kurt

Plugs are super cheap and easy to use. A lot of time even being able to be used with the tire/wheel still on the vehicle.
No personal experience but I've always heard the old line of how when the tire with fix-a-flat in it is finally broken down from the rim, the resulting cleanup of that goo is passed on to you.
I've had great results with plug kits on everything from lawn mower and golf cart tires up to 19.5" commercials.
Good luck and hope you won't have to use either any time soon!

If it's an emergency, use it.
If you can use your spare, use your spare. Otherwise, that stuff will damage the TPMS sensor. If you use too much of it, it will throw the balance off until you drive for a little bit. But it's for emergency situations.

Most tire places charge extra to properly repair a tire that has been temporarily fixed with fix a flat. Its messy stuff.
Plugs are also are a temp and easy fix.
Either way, I would take the tire to get properly fixed (plug & patch) after using one of these temp solutions

Not sure on Toyota TPMS, but on my BMW the 'OEM flat tire fixer' which is similar to fix a flat caused me to have to replace my TPMS sensor with a new one.

Please elaborate on "temp" in that statement

A plug by itself isn't a perminant fix. The correct way to fix it is a patch plug combo. Unless it's changed from when I managed a firestone while putting myself through college 10 yrs ago.

I have a feeling there's a lot more plugs (running around, unpatched) and that's based on almost 40 years of driving and plugging tires. I was plugging my own tires when you were still crapping green, kid.. But all kidding aside, there's has to be tons of tires sporting plugs only.
Having owned a construction business for quite a few years forced me to get trucks (and men) back on the road as quick as possible...so if I could roll up, plug a tire, fill it with air and be ready to roll, that's how it went. I can't honestly remember a plug failing...
hope you patched tiares betar than you speeled college boy....lol..."permanent"

Wow you are old. That's cool. I guess.
I didn't say it wasn't a fix, it is a cheap on the fly way to fix. Just like fix-a-flat. Hope you don't build things half assed like you fix your tires construction geezer.

I knew a guy who was fixing a tire that had this fix-a-flat in the tire and nobody told him, when he got the tire off it exploded because of that stuff and took most the skin from his hand/forearm. This info is from texastriallawyer.com
While trying to fix a flat, many tire workers and others can be blinded, maimed, or even decapitated when the tire explodes. Most of these tires had been previously filled with a can of tire sealant to fix a leak in the tire. The propellant in the tire sealant often times contains the butane & propane. When an ignition source is present a massive explosion is possible.

I carry a can along with plugs, etc. just because you never know but it's there only when I'm too drunk to get the spare or plugs.
My car came with no spare but has this stuff and a small compressor.

Man that escalated quickly... I usually just patch. Unless it is on a ford excursion on a knarly trail, then I just give up and limp it down on the rim because it is the third flat in a day...
