2014 trail Softex seats or old school seats
Hey everyone. I have my 4runner lined up and I'm ready to buy but i need some help with the seats.
I'm buying a 2014 trail premium for $36,500, but it comes with the leather-like "Softex" seats.
1. Has anyone converted these back to the normal waterproof trail edition seats?
2. Should I even bother switching the seats? I'm just worried about the seats getting too hot if they are in the sun.
Thank you for your help!

Haven't converted back to TE seats, which I preferred. I ended up ordering a front set of seat covers from wetokole, which should accomplish the same thing. Vinyl gets hot in the summer for sure. Your other option would be to get a sunscreen for the front window.

I live in Florida with black leather and they don't get too hot unless I have the windows down and it sitting in the sun. Solar guard tint works wonders

This is my 1st summer with the Soft-tex seats in Texas. So far I am happy with the temp of them when I get out of work at 4pm. It hasn't hit 105 yet either and my ride is white so that maybe the reason I think it stays cooler than my old grey f-150 with leather. The f-150 would get hot as hell. So far mid 90s has been good.

I KNOW you'll be able to find someone that will swap the seats with you.

Glad to hear you guys are liking the new seats. I think I will just get the wetokole seat covers. Their store is actually just down the street from me.
The dealership said they could reupholster the 4runner in any fabric I want for $1,495! I laughed at that and told them a hot seat in the summer isn't worth $1500 bucks.
I'll let you guys know what happens. Might be picking it up on Monday.

Umm the Softex "IS" the normal "Trail Premium" seat.
I HATE leather. I hate it. It's too hot "for me" and always has been. My first 4runner way back when had the real leather seats and I traded it after a year because I couldn't stand it.
After saying that, I love my softex seats in my 2014 TEP. They are much cooler than real closed cell leather. They also dry much faster. It gets HOT in OK. The seats are black and I only have the normal factory UV tint. I've had zero issues with them and for "me" that's saying something.
Why not wait and try them and then decide?

Just brought home a 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS, sliding rear tray, Entune/Nav.
Thanks for all the help with the seats. I think I'm going to order some WetOkole seat covers for it.

I think you should give them a try before you go ordering anything. I had some legal ceramic tint put in, this keeps the seats from ever getting hot. I absolutely love the softex seats. My dogs jump on them, no scratches. Give it a few weeks, you may love them!

I ended up buying some trail/sr5 seat covers on ebay for super cheap. I have a SR5P and dislike the 2 tone softex. It looks and feels cheap to me. But I'm having some serious second thoughts on whether I want to reupholster my rig. Just a quick call around and it sounds like I can get it done for about 600. Also, is there a way to tell if the seat covers are trail or sr5? I'm curious if they are waterproof/resistant or not.
