Backup Camera Relocate & Wireless Wifi Front Camera

I have two questions:

1. Who has relocated their backup camera because of a rear bumper swing-out obstruction?
a) Where did you relocate it too?
b) How did you do it? Write up? Pictures?

2. Has anybody installed a wireless camera (WiFi, Bluetooth) in the front of their T4R for wheeling purposes?
a) What did you buy?
b) What are you using to view the image? Android, iPhone?
c) Is it rugged? Temperatures get down to -50 degC where I live....

Thanks in advance for the info!

Rear camera #2

I bought a rear view camera from amazon and mounted it under the rear spoiler due to my using a swing out bike carrier. The license plate camera was blocked with the rack in place, I still have it connected into the rear view mirror. The new camera is connected into my touch screen stereo, Pioneer 2600BT. It works great, no info on temp ratings though. I am interested in a front camera as well.

Great timing on this thread. Just got my CBI rear bumper and swingout on and looking for rear camera options now. Thanks!

Don't forget that for a front facing camera you need one that isn't mirrored.

Thanks for the info! Any idea on what camera I should buy that I can attach to the existing camera harness (I'll disconnect the existing camera)? Anyone know how to access the existing harness connection?

I think @phillyd2 did a front facing camera a long time ago. Might check his build thread

I did some more 'googling'. It seems as though all aftermarket backup cameras are 12 volt. I believe the Toyota cameras are 6 volt. So to buy an after market camera and 'tap' it into the factory harness, one would have to step down the voltage. Here's a website that explains how to do it on the cheap...

This thread is the closest I've been able to get while looking for answers to a couple of questions. I'm thinking about buying a junkyard OEM camera and leaving my current camera in place. I would mount the new camera on the underside of the spoiler, and (hopefully) use the existing camera wiring to just plug right in, since the run appears to be shorter. My questions are:

1. Can anyone show me what the view looks like from the spoiler when using a factory camera?

2. Does the proximity grid (blue and red lines) become useless then, or can it still be accurate if the camera angle is just right?

Thanks for any intel!

SSO camera relocation kit

Sorry to necro an old thread, but rather than start a whole new one...

Anyone have any experience with the
SSO camera relocation kit? Any thoughts on it?

Anything else out there for a comparable price?

I’m interested in knowing this as well. The kit seems to be what I’m looking for but not much info online about it.

Here is the factory toyota connector that plugs into the camera. Just remove the factory camera and place it wherever you want. Build a harness with this connector running the wires back to the factory connection in the rear hatch door.

There is a short 6 inch harness that plugs into the factory camera as you can see in this pick that you can unplug, cut it in half and you have your splice point to plug back into the factory harness in the hatch.

I used about 20 feet of wire relocating to my C4 fab rear bumper running along sing arm. into a grommet under the floor where other wiring comes in, up the C pillar trim into the rubber boot that goes into the hatch door.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076P4M1SG...v_ov_lig_dp_it

I stole this pic of the short 6 inch harness from another thread on here.

Hey buddy,

We worked with Anytime Backup Camera to come out with a rear relocation kit that doesn't require messing with the factory camera at all. All it takes is using a connector behind the head unit that overrides that factory camera. We made brackets with our UltraSwing in mind, but it could also be a great solution for other aftermarket swing-out bumpers, etc.

The kit works on most Toyotas 2014-2019

Yeah, but $300? That’s an insane price for a wire loom extension and a bracket. I could see $75 tops.
