Performance Mods for the v6?
Hi, new here, and new to owning 4runner. Have had Toyotas in the past (pickups and Sequoia) with various v8 motors. The 4.7 in my 2002 Tundra still going strong at 160k miles with duals. Had a '08 Sequoia with the 5.7, it was a beast, but smooth. Recently tried, for extended period a '13 Tundra with 4.6, and found it completely gutless.
Anyway, I just bought a 2012 4Runner Limited 4WD, like new - <10k miles. My only complaint is the v6 power... I knew going in I wouldn't love it, but since the v8 is no longer offered, I was willing to make the compromise. Any suggestions for getting more power (and torque) without killing mpg or durability?

When i first got my 2012 runner i felt the same way. So used to with the v8 on the 4th gen. The 4.0 was like a slug on a hot sunny day. I figure the previous owner or dealership used 87 gas. After a few weeks of running 93 gas and some techron treatment the engine is clearly responsive. This is not a placebo. I didnt have to step on the gas all the way down anymore. Now its running like a snail. No more slug effect. But no where near the v8.

My first inclination is cold-air intake. Did great for my old Tundra 4.7... Anybody try this on the v6?

Search is your friend. First answer is Yes. Your next question's answer is no.

This has been discussed ad nauseum and simply put, there are none. Member
@ harper7
put on headers, but removed them (I don't remember why), reams written about a TRD S/C but nothing has materialized yet.
The power is up high in the revs. It will go, but you have to demand the power.

I read in the 3rd gen forum running diesel gets you better torque and mpg. Has anyone tried this?

It was rocket fuel not diesel. Makes it pretty much a drag racer!

Seriously , theres no way to make noticeable power without forced induction i.e supercharger, turbo.
Even an intake or whatever exhaust system that gain a couple hp will not make any incline on the butt dyno.
