No they just changed the design. The older all black racks are plastic with a metal channel inside for the cross bars where as the newer trail racks are essentially the same as the SR5 racks but with black end caps. They are all interchangeable provided you get the needed hardware.

The all black TE racks use different bolts and have a small metal bracket that sits inside the channel on the roof.
Easiest way to get the hardware for anyone looking to swap is to order the brackets online and pick up an FJ rack hardware kit. They are the same bolts and comes with all the washers as well. I got mine on Amazon for less than $20.

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone else has a set of these black roof rails they'd be willing to sell, please let me know. Thanks.

I've got a set of black rails from my '11 T.E. that are sitting in the corner of the garage. I love the look of them, but got a Baja Utility Rack that's much more useful, so I'm happy to sell the black ones, but don't know what going prices are. Offers?

Edit: sold. Thanks for all the replies. For the record, they were sold for $100 locally. Probably worth more, but you can't put a price on easy.

I'd be interested in the rails. I have no idea what they go for either. I saw a set of the other kind on my local Craig's for $30. But I've seen on the for sale section of the forum for $700.. Lol.

That helps. I probably won't get over 1k for them then, unless I sit on en a few more years and let em become a rare commodity Trail edition factory roof rack

Edit: that was in jest. Sold now.

WTB: Black Roof Rack from 2013 or older Trail Edition

I just took delivery of a 2016 Limited and want to switch out the silver roof rack rails. Let me know if any 2013 or older TE owners have rails they want to unload.

Thanks!

Are there any actual functional differences between the black 10-13 TE roof rails and the silver 14+ roof rails? Is it just the overall height of the rail channels or is there actually a capacity difference? If it is just the height, does this actually provide any advantages?

full length roof rack rails?

hi, have a 15 sr5. all the current factory roof rack rails only cover the rear 2/3 of the roof. I want something i can use for 2 canoes and thus full length rails with extended crossbars.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. my budget is limited so no point recommending a baja or similar. Just want rails i can mount crossbars on, or something simple.
thanks

I haven't seen any rail systems that extend further forward. It's a little tricky to do without it being a full rack, as there are no mount points in front of the stock rails unless you want to drill new holes in your roof (gasp). The full size racks provide enough structural stability to just use foot pads that rest on the trim line, not sure how well that would work with removable crossbars. You might be able to pick up a second set of stock bars and do some custom work to extend your existing ones. Might work fine!

did a hybrid

crossbars on roof rails at the back.
Mounting points drilled into roof and cross bars attached in the front.
Can adjust the back end for length, so this could make the rack somewhat versatile.

I have a set of factory black TE roof rails and cross bars and hardware off my 2013 Trail that have been sitting around for over a year. I'm located in NY but traveling down to Houston Texas next week. Can meet some one along the way. Preferable not far from my route as I will have a trailer and on a time schedule. Will take offers not sure what the going rate is these days. send a PM

I have these for sale if anyone wants them. I would sell the rack, the black end caps, and the hardware for 50 bucks. They have never been used and I took them off because I put a Baja rack on.

PM me if you are interested. I am in Dallas

I'm a day late LOL.

I broke the DS FF end cap when I removed mine to powder coat the rails. You know how much that little plastic end cap cost from Toyota?

$56. That's how much.
