Filled out Toyota's initial quality feedback today

I'm happy to say that the only thing i marked unsatisfactory is the lockout of most of the entune touch screen features while the vehicle is in motion.

I replied that it's unacceptable to lockout the passenger from putting in touch screen inputs while the vehicle is in motion. I suggested that they could use the weight sensor in the passenger seat that activates the airbag to allow the input. Or they could simply put in a consent screen like they do when the vehicle is turned on.

I'm sharing this so that other t4r owners who are surveyed can make the same request and have toyota remove the silly lockout.

Honestly that's why many people go to aftermarket head units. Toyota and Lexus all lock out almost all the features due to thier legal department's opinion. No matter how dissatisfied we are with it, in this case, they won't budge. It's their company stance. As lame as it is, and as much as we all find it nearly unusable in this way, it is what it is.

My guess is that it's a legal or liability thing - good old CYA.

They need to be hit for not making auto on headlights available on all models too. We may have a better chance with that one.

Well.... when you lose a 12 million dollar lawsuit because someone actually wore their seatbelt. I can see why they play it safe, even though I think it's ridiculous.

Hasn't someone done a navigation mod on the 4runner that allows use of all navigation functions while vehicle is in motion?

I used to have an Lexus IS250 and there was a DIY navi mod to allow all functions of the navigation to be used. If I remember correctly you just had to cut a wire behind the navigation unit.

I didn't Toyota off so easy when I filled out the questionnaire on my '13 SR5.

1) Cheap inferior plastic on interior trim and panels. Scratches and scuffs very easily.

2) I find it irritating that there is no power to the 12v outlets with the ignition switch off. Can't lock phone in car and let it charge.

3) It was almost dark when I took delivery from the dealer and it wasn't until the next day I realized that the paint was swirled up by the flunky who "detailed" it just prior to me driving off in it. It's black no less.
If I let a Toyota dealer near the car again, it won't be the one I bought it from.

Thanks op for giving me this opportunity to vent.

When Toyota made a deal with Garmin for the Quest 2 on the FJs a few years ago, the GPS units were modified to disable many of the functions while in motion.

The initial screen was also changed to show the Toyota name and logo. I always thought it was odd Toyota seemed happy to associate its logo with a Toyota crippled GPS unit.
