Remote Starter Setting Off Alarm

Hey guys. This is probably redundant, but I can't find it through the search so I thought I would ask quick to see if there were any thoughts on the issue.

I had a CompuStar 2WG9 installed on my 2015 TEP on Saturday, and it seems to be working fine except for one MAJOR thing. It likes to set off the alarm when I remote start it. The car will initiate the start sequence via the remote, the alarm will go off, and then the car will start while the alarm is going off. The only way I can get it to stop is using the factory key unlock button...

The installer already know the issue and is encouraging me to bring it in, but I wanted to get the forum folk thoughts. I'd guess the alarm isn't being bypassed correctly, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any tricks or thoughts. Holy sh*t it's irritating... Luckily it's 0 degrees here today, so a remote starter isn't needed...

Thanks in advance.

They did not properly install the system, I would let them fix it. Bonus that they already know what the problem is.

Hopefully it is just an "oops" such as grabbing the wrong wire or forgetting to program the bypass and they can easily complete the install.

Sucks that you have to go back, but I would take it back to them and respectfully watch them fix it.

Oh, this is the plan for sure. I'm not keen on revisiting the shop, but it is definitely their problem to fix. The guy said it'd be 15-20 minutes to fix it, but I think his 15-20 minutes could be longer. I really do hope it's just an 'oops' instead of a 'that's odd'. I mean, it's a pretty simple thing without the push-button smart key system... Super irritating.

It's odd. It doesn't happen every time -- about 50% of the time. I tried twice after shutting the car off, and it worked fine (on and off). But then when I returned to my car after 30-45 mins of eating lunch ALARM again.... Not sure why it would be inconsistent.

I'm going to guess your installer forgot to program the RS to "disarm" the vehicle just before it starts. This will also unlock the door(s) but it should also "re-arm" right after it starts and re-lock the door(s). Not a big deal, should be quick if he is using Compustar's programmer. Surprised your installer didn't test that before delivery.

mine as done this since new. I just unlock it before I hit the start button, the system automatically locks after it cranks. If it is in range to unlock, it is in range to start.

Winner! He was testing the system with the hatch up, this not allowing the alarm to arm in his shop -- which wasn't allowing him to id the issue from the onset. Thanks guys!

I just got mine installed last night, and I'm having the same problem. My question is, does your system unlock your vehicle every time when it disarms prior to starting?

If so, doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose of the alarm system as someone can get in at that time and steal your belongings...?

Mine does this. It starts, unlocks, then locks. All within 10 seconds or so. I have the Direct Smart Start (I can start it from my phone). If I'm that worried about it I can log into it and see if the doors are open/locked/etc. I'm going to guess if someone's standing there, waiting on me to start it, then ready to open the door they can pretty much have my stuff as that's a lot of work and time on their part.

That is a good point. I have the compustar T11, which indicates if the doors are open. Still kind of a pain that I have to unlock prior to starting - I wasn't anticipating that.

Thanks for the response.

Yep, got it fixed today. It unlocks for about 7 seconds while disarming, turns on, then re-locks. Wish it didn't unlock at all, but I'm still happy with the system.

Hi. I bought my 2016 4Runner about 18 months ago. It already had the remote start installed. I worked fine until recently when it started setting off the alarm. It does it about 90% of the time. I didn’t have any work done. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey y’all, don’t mean to revive an old thread but wanted to get something on the board for future members/googlers searching for a solution. I just finished installing a Compustar cm900as remote start/alarm and I couldn’t figure out why the OEM alarm kept going off when I remote started. I thought maybe some of my connections were bad so I took apart the dash again, removed all the t taps and soldered all my connections.

The issue persisted.

I found this thread and began going through the installation manual and you can program your remote start to do the unlock/start engine/lock sequence with your remote.

Accessing the programming menus with the remotes varies depending on which kind you have, but for my 2 way remote(t9):

Access menu 1:
1. Press and hold lock + unlock until chirp
2. Press and hold lock + unlock until chirp again

Choose option 1:
3. Press key button once
4. Wait for siren to chirp back once(takes a few seconds) and parking lights to flash once(sometimes doesn’t flash)

Select setting 2:
5. Press unlock

Feature programmed

If anyone needs help I’d be more than happy to provide some input
