Dear Toyota -HEEELP!
Recently my 2015 TE has twice turned on the check engine, Trac Control and the blinking green indicator that signifies something wrong in the TE 4 low options. It did this about 2 weeks ago and then the lights went away. When my appointment came up the rep said if it went away don't worry about it. Well, it's back. The engine also often stalls when shifting from park to rev and also from rev to D. This doesn't happen every time but it is fairly regular. The next appointment I could get to look at it is next Tuesday, which I understand due to the inclement weather we are enduring. Or he said I could leave the truck for 2 or 3 days and he would fit it in if possible, leaving me with no vehicle. NOT. Has anyone else had similar issues? It also seems like it may be possibly temperature related issue as the last time it happened it was below 0°F. The temp has dropped into single digits today and here it is again. I will give them the chance to fix this, but to say the least I am not particularly happy with this coming up with only 2500 miles on the truck.

Hate to say it, but something is definitely wrong. Weather may be triggering the problem but I doubt it's causing it as many of us experience much colder temps without any issues.

Got into dealer for check out appointment today and the magical mystery computer says I have a defective crankshaft position sensor. Part is ordered and service rep says it will be 2 days or so to arrive. I was told this will be an all day job as much has to come apart to replace it.

Glad you found that. But, I wonder... Is there a limp home mode on the 4Runner? Like, if that were to occur in a not so nice location...

For this item, I doubt it. The crank sensor interfaces with almost everything to do with making the engine run, fuel injection, ignition timing and whatever other engine management things for the vehicle. I suspect it may also interface with the transmission. My city doesn't really have any "keep out" areas and I am not leaving town as long as the check engine light comes on.

Latest update. It was not the crankshaft sensor. After much troubleshooting,it turned out that the aftermarket remote starter module appears to have failed. It had worked properly for over a month and then started causing check engine lights. Fortunately my installer was the same guy the dealer uses so there was no friction as they know he does good work. As of yesterday one of the two modules was replaced and at this time all seems to be working properly. If further issues, I will post.

The RS is a Viper 2000' single button, I seem to recall 4205 I did not need or want a lot of bells and whistles. The other module is the key interface but I have no idea what it is and do not believe I was ever told. When everything was working correctly I was happy with its' range and performance, as it did not shut the engine off when the door was opened.

several newer 5th gens showing up on this board lately with weird electrical gremlins that are all related to aftermarket equipment installations.

If the problem should reappear they have indicated they will replace the other module. If it continues after that, we will discuss removal of the RS as I will not tolerate the stalling issue in a new vehicle.

Glad to hear they didn't hang you out to dry on an after market part. That could have been ugly!
