TRD Pro Tires
Has anyone switched to MT's on their TRDP yet? I don't think the AT's are going to cut it for the soggy Florida trails and may switch over to Nitto Trail Grapplers. Debating between taking the easy route and going with factory size (265/70R17), or bumping up to 285 and making them fit. Any input? Anyone want a set of Terra Grapplers with 2800 miles on them?

My wife's brother lives in West Palm, I would have taken them off your hands if you were a little closer.

I have had 285 Duratracs on my TRD Pro wheels since I got them last fall. There's a whole other thread on the subject of 285s on a 7" wide rim (which isn't recommended by most tire mfg's) and the summary is the only time it would be an issue is if the tires were air'd down super low for off-roading. At normal pressure (44 psi in my case) they've worked awesome, on and off highway.
My local dealer has a set of the same 285 tires on a set of the grey TRD rims on a 2015 TE in their showroom. Initially I was a little concerned about the rim width issue but after ~15k miles on the set up with a few road trips (and 80-85 mph speeds) there's no reason not to run 285s if you want to. Good luck.

What's the lowest you've aired your Duratracs on the TRDPro tires down to?

I just took my 285's off my 7" TRD wheels, it was starting to wear them unevenly after 8k miles. After installing them on 8.5" wheels the difference was dramatic, the look, way they handle along with a much bigger foot print.
Yes, the 285 will fit on the TRD wheel, but the compromises were much more than I had realized.

Haven't needed to air them down yet and dont think I will. I have my stock set of 7.5" wide stock TE rims (and a set of 7.5" wide TRD forged "beadlock style" rims i haven't gotten around to selling yet) that I'm keeping for trail beater use...

Good to know. A wider rim is definitely preferred but I'm a sucker for TRD rims for some reason... I havent played around with air pressure too much after I got the first set of 285s in 2012 but they seem to be wearing fine for me so far. I think an 8.5" rim would be ideal for 285s tho...

I hear 8" version of TRD wheel is around the corner.
