35's on stock gears.
Hey all, just wanted to see if anyone has ran 35" tires on stock gears or has any input on running these. The reason i ask is I can get some Kevlars for a really smoking deal!

I think the 4Runner would be similiar to an FJ. I am running 305/70-16's, essential 33x12's, on it and the performance hit was very obvious. I am considering regear I go to 4.56's with the 33's. So, if I were to go to 35's I would absolutely be wanting to regear.

I couldn't stand stock gearing with 33" MTRs and extra weight; wouldn't even consider it with any larger tire

It will suck. It will feel like you are always pulling a small trailer around. It will constantly be hunting for the right gear and downshift at the slightest increase in altitude. Minivans not even trying will beat you taking off from stoplights. I went through all this on my Jeep Wrangler I had until I regeared it. Regear it and it will feel like you took 1000 lbs out of it. Just because the tires are a good deal does not mean they are right for you. It will cost you more in the long run.

From the recent threads on this exact topic, I wanna say I saw quotes from ECGS around $3k front and rear. Those kevlars better be free or a great deal on tires suddenly became really expensive. ETA - I'm looking for the thread but I believe that included lockers.

I paid $2400 from East Coast Gear Supply for rebuilt diffs with the 4.56 gears installed, but about $900 of that was for an ARB locker for the front.

Talk to Luke, he has the ability to do the gearing, heck, he's in the middle of mine. But yes, plan on $2k plus unless you drop the 3rds.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask this question you are probably not in a good position to be accepting the level of aggressive modifications it will take to fit 35s

Do it. I'm still debating 35s. Even considering an 18" wheel to get a 285/75/18. It would be super nice for someone else to do it before me, so I've got a really good idea of what all I'll need.

I have 295/65/18s on my runner now and its gone down about 1 mpg so not bad. If it gets worse I plan on doing bigger gears but there is a guy at my fab shop who put 35s on his and loves it. Says its slow as hell though!

I, along with a few others, am running 34s (285/75x17) and have A LOT of added weight, especially with the tent on. . I currently am running stock gears and honestly can say I NEED to regear. My truck is constantly hunting for a gear and is sluggish. Luckily I don't daily drive mine so I will put up with it till I can regear. If you are to do your gears you might as well throw lockers in too.
I think 35s are going to be very tight in our trucks, as they are with the previous gens. Can it be done? Sure, but be prepared for the work and to get them to work in the dirt.
