Push button start
Is it possible to install the push button start from the limited models into any of the other models? Specifically the pro?

Dealer said it couldn't be installed as an option. Was wondering if it was possible to install after purchasing the vehicle

Here's an option but it doesn't address the steering wheel lock.

There are companies that make aftermarket push to start modules like this one: Advanced Keys - Products
I know that a lot of people that had fancy aftermarket alarms installed also went ahead and threw in a push to start. From what I understand it isn't terribly complicated to do, it probably won't look as clean as it does from the factory though. I don't know about the 4runner in particular, but I do know that it is possible in most vehicles.
EDIT: Looks like someone just beat me to posting the same link. It was one of the first links I found on Google so I guarantee there are more companies out there that will do it.

I installed a Honda S2000 start button in my Honda CRV. it still needed the key to unlock the steering wheel and immobilizer; the button then started the vehicle. so it is a little more show than go, but it's an easy mod.
To go all out like the limited, you probably need to replace a good percentage of the electronics in the steering colum.

My 2015 LE is my first car with smart key. I think I'd actually prefer a conventional key for the ignition. You can't start the car with the pushbutton from the passenger side.
The main upside for me is the ability to lock/unlock doors without taking the key fob out. I imagine it would be a lot more work to wire up a SR5 or Trail for the antennae and door handles for this feature....

After driving a few cars with the smart key. I love it and wish my 4runner had it. Every door on my house has an electronic key pad. My key ring consists of my ignition key. It's a lot more convenient to leave it in my pocket. I even find myself looking for the button once in a while.
I've said this before in other threads - it's available on a $16k Corolla and standard on Hyundai's cheapest car. It should be standard on a $35k 4runner.
