I got this 2014 4Runner Trail Premium from Carson Toyota ... Pretty happy with the rig. The kids call the rig Rocky. LOL!!! So it stuck... Anyway this is my little build thread to compile all the mods I've done to her so far...

Basically got the rig in Oct and went on a 1000mile Vegas turn and Burn and then a month later when to Arizona for a pistol competition. And had my first heart break. Someone dropped their lawn mower on the 91 fwy.

Went all the way to Arizona that way ...

1) first mods are 55watt 5K Head Light HID's and 55watt 3500k Fog lights:

Then when I got back I got it sorted out with my Insurance and my buddy's shopped fixed my Rocky up ... And blacked out the emblems and painted the front bumper trim and rear bumper trim body color.

2) Installed my Rare and now very expensive TRD Duracon ShiftKnob

Took her out to the snow !!! Can you believe it ?!?!?! Snow in Southern California... Well, Lake Elsinore

3) Then I dyno'ed the 4runner to get a baseline:

4)My buddy got me a hook up price for the TRD Pro front end:

Took Rocky to the range on the regular basis...

then my second heart break happened!!!
She got hit by ricochet from the looks of it. Like a pistol round that got sent air borne and dropped right here:

Called Vince @ Dents No More and he made it looks like it never happened. Even buffed the scratch out. for $140 bucks he came out to my house and fixed Rocky right on my drive way...

after shots:

5) Got a screaming deal on a TRD CAI where I just couldnt pass up:

6) Dyno'ed Rocky just out of curiosity; with the TRD CAI and was surprised to find 5whp and 19.1tq gain :

7) Got tired of the OEM floor mats getting dirty... So I placed an order for some weather tech's and the oem toyota cargo mat... Loving the weather techs but hating the oem cargo mat.

STAY TUNED !!! Exhaust maybe Borla or magnaflow or custom flowmaster setup. And a URD y pipe as well ... Then it'll be rock sliders ( cuz the kids are having issues getting up the 4runner) and then some suspension...

Nice rig and welcome. What range was that you went to? Is it close by?

Welcome to the forum!

I'm excited to finally see someone with some dyno runs!

( @1engineer - I told you my cut up intake was good for at least 50 hp, lol )

Any idea why the dyno runs show low/negative numbers until 3200 rpm, just curious?

Also, it would be really interesting, and also test some theories, if you could get some dyno runs after that intake has been on there awhile to see how the 4Runner ECU is reacting to the mod.

Nice thread!

Thank you for posting your dyno runs! Glad finally someone posted data instead of the other 1,000 posts claiming 20 HP from a $200 mod. Good job!

The reason for the negative horsepower below 3000 rpm is; they had to zero there and eased into the power. No matter what we did. The traction control would kick in; even when traction control was off.

As for the intake... I dyno'ed after 3 tankfulls... I baseline stock was about 4000miles on the motor and dyno'ed with the intake at about 6600miles or so...

Interesting dyno numbers, thanks for posting. As a former LS-series engine addict I'd be curious to see if this could be repeated after some time with the stock intake re-installed.

I've always been interested to see what the v6 put down. Looks like its a 21% drive train loss, which I assume you did your pulls in 2wd?

I'd like to see it dynoed in 4wd just to see how much of a difference there is.

Looks like my next mod will be a Flowmaster series 50 muffler and just add it to stock piping...after the muffler theres no weird crush bends or anything. Only thing I'm going to have the muffler shop do is modify the piping at the end and tuck it closer to the frame; for better ground clearance.

Reason I went this way is...

1) everything out there magnaflow, borla, flowmaster, etc .. are all 2.5" piping

2) I want to tuck the exhaust exit closer to the frame for better ground clearance. And all the exhaust systems out there doesnt do this.

3) save me some cash ... I'll most likely dyno after I get back from Arizona... If I dont see any gains. I'll consider swap the system out for a magnaflow or a borla unit.

The only other 4wd dyno I know of ... Is adequately called "The Heart Breaker" in Orange County. Its an 4wd dyno at a Audi shop. And ita crushed dreams of plenty of Audi, Wrx and Evo guys... It tends to register low to say the least.

I had a custom exhaust put in today but ... I went with the Super 50 muffler. Its an aggressive sound. Might be alittle too aggressive for me. So I might go back in the morning and have the muffler shop add a resonator or swap it out with a super 70's ... I also had the muffler shop modify the rear section and have them tuck it closer to the frame...

heres the pics :

stock muffler

Rear section modified, shorten, and tucked...

and of course video :
sitting in the drive rev'ing

from a dead stop to 40mph... windows rolled up
