5th Gen Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Mod

Does anyone have a pic they can post of their 4runner showing an aftermarket bulb other than the orange/amber light that comes stock?

I've read tons and tons of threads talking about DRL bulbs, but not one person has actually posted a pic of their car. Kinda strange if you ask me.

I want to get rid of those ugly orange lights with a clear bulb. Does anyone recommend a bulb?

ps: please note I have a 2012 LE model

Thanks,

Alex

Don't know about Cali, but up here it's illegal to run a different colour light because it's also your turn signal marker.

How much money you want to spend?
Cheapest and simplest way for 2010-2013's is just put in 1156 bulbs instead of the factory 1156NA bulbs in the turn signal/DRL lights. Without the NA that stands for natural amber they are just clear bulbs that light up white. They cost about a buck a piece at walmart or any auto parts store.
White or amber is legal for front turn signals in most states ....from your
CA VEHICLE CODE
SECTION 24950-24953-Any turn signal system used to give a signal of
intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or
amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light
visible to the rear.

Here's a 1156 bulb and a 1156NA bulb. I had the clear 1156's in mine for years until I switched to VLED LED V3 Switchbacks that I have now but cost a lot more then a buck but have worked perfect now that they figured out the reverse polarity of 4Runners!..........VLED Switchbacks These LEDs are way brighter then the old filament bulbs.

@harper7 Thanks for the info. Kind of a dumb ass question, but are the 1156 bulbs made by Phillips or is there another brand? Is this the bulb...

Thanks again,

there are numerous manufacturers for that bulb. Just go to napa or any other parts store and they'll have a bunch of different brands ranging in price range. Those bulbs in the link are the correct bulbs

With the title, I thought that you are presenting us with a DRL mod.... I was excited... but then found that it is merely a question without answers.

ALSO, you are not even talking about ALL of 5th gen...... you are talking about 2010-2013..... so please don't speak for all of "5th gen"...... 2014+ do not have an AMBER DRL..... our DRL is our high beam with voltage reduced....

@jicko Are you serious with your reply? Clearly you're the only person who misunderstood my post and more importantly if you actually took the time to read my entire post I clearly state...

PS: I HAVE A 2012 LE MODEL

Not sure where your confusion lies as other don't seem to have the same issue you do. In the future I would suggest since this is a public forum you send any negative concerns via PM to the owner of the thread or simply move on to another thread that does interest you and you have something positive to add.

On a side note I am a novice when it comes to these types of forums and if I made an error in posting I don't think a stranger should rip into me. There a lot worse things going on in the world today that you should set your sites on than some guy who may have typed an incorrect word or two on a car forum.

Regards,

@harper7 . Thank you for this. Been looking around at a bunch of half-baked answers.

Anyone else with the OG preface T4R that have experience with Vleds 1156 as true working switchbacks from white DRL to Amber signals? I'm replacing 1156 Lasfit dual ambers now, current mental side project is telling me to change sockets to 7443 Lasfit dual white/amber switchbacks with relays for the 3rd wire power lead or run it to the correct switch source. 1156 white/amber switchbacks with built in load resistors are hard to come by. My previous attempts with 1156 ebay/amazon switchbacks with inline resistors almost worked but when I signal I get the white, amber, white, amber etc. Really was just expecting ambers flashing with turn signals on.

Just gonna let you know that the Lasfit 7443s are also going to flash white and then amber if you go that route. You might need a switchback module in-line to stop that. Diode dynamics makes a good one for $20/pair
