New to this....looking for some feedback.

My name is Josh and I have a 4Runner addiction. I am new here, to the 5th Gen section that is. I have a 3rd Gen and have decided it is time for my and my Tundra to part ways. I am looking at a 5th Gen TEP. Yes it will be wheeled, not as hard as my 3rd, but still wheeled. It will also end up with a 3 inch lift eventually, we all know the addiction, but will be my get around, and maybe my off and on daily driver. I know there is so much to pour over in this section, all the FAQs and all that. Really just looking at recommendations, and positives and negatives on the Trail Premium, and SR5 Premium models. Anything I should steer clear of? Anything that is an absolute must get? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Yeah...it will probably be dirty and grimy a lot. I will probably be in here quite a bit looking for info on how to lift it, deal with the computer, etc.

Hey...thoughts on KDSS? Is it better to have or avoid it if I am lifting it? What does it really do?

KDSS is good and bad.

Think of it as a hydraulically controlled sway-bar system. It more or less firms up on the road in corners and gets loose for off-road low speed stuff.

The only downside to it is that you can't install any type of long travel... with it (front or rear). And, it is extremely expensive to fix if it does have a problems down the road.

I think there will be more sway-bar quick disconnect options in the future for 5th gens... but that won't apply to KDSS. Personally, I would much rather have a manual disconnect setup than KDSS. But my priorities are not the same as most folks.

BTW, the 5th gens computer... is fully locked. You can't change anything....Just be prepared for that. That is why there will most likely never be an option for forced induction.....There are a few special tricks that have to be done if you are lifting with KDSS, but I don't think they are a big deal.

I hit a speed bump at the mall too fast, lost control and drove into the trees, that's actually a drainage ditch.

So it looks like I am taking the plunge....2015 TEP no KDSS in that nice Magnetic Gray....Guess I will be splitting my time between here and the 3rd gen section. Will post pics once it gets here, its still on its way.

Not to try really resurrect this thread too much. I was wondering what everyone is running for intake and exhaust on their 5th gens? What sounds vs what is priced good? And anything special that I should be modding immediately?

Intake and exhaust...minimal HP gain at most...it already has a OEM CAI.

First mods.... Lift and Tires.

Yeah, that's on the docket as well. 285 Duratracs, and maybe an 18 inch wheel? Do you know if ADS is making anything for the 5th gens?

Can't speak to ADS, but most people tend to stick with 17" wheels. Lots of options out there, but the Konig Countersteer and Konig Six Shooter from FN Wheels have been really popular with a lot of people on here because of their price/weight/strength combo (I have the Countersteer wheels personally along with Duratrac tires...love em).

I just have heard so much great about the ADS on the 3rd gens. So I had to figure that they would be comparable on the 5ths.

Like the 3rd gen do I need to do the springs in the rear too, or can I just throw the new coilovers on and crank them up?
