lovin the 4R!

I've been dodging in and out of the shadows, reading and enjoying the great build threads here.

I recently received my trail edition after a 4-5 week wait. I'm in eastern canada, and the only trail edition that is available is considered the TEP I guess. Dealer threw in some new 265 BFG AT KO2's, which made me a very happy camper.

Received the vehicle with 2km on the odometer. I don't think you can get any further from where this vehicle was manufactured that where I am... that was just incredible to see. I treated the truck to some zaino, and the paint was immaculate. What a wonderful feeling.

I foster greyhounds until they are adopted, and I occasionally travel a few hours with 3-4 hounds that are fresh from the track. Space is important, and the 4R seems like an exceptional hound-hauler. Especially with that sliding back glass. Give me a break!!! I didn't even know it had that when I ordered the 4R. I also am fortunate to enjoy fly fishing for atlantic salmon in my home province, and a capable 4x4 always makes for a better trip to the lesser-travelled pools. I was lucky to challenge a washout last weekend that I wouldn't have dreamed of approaching in my old pickup.

Anyway, glad to be here, and many thanks to the generations of great posts and information about these vehicles. For some reason the 4runner has slipped past my radar over the years, but so far I am very impressed.

Sticker is off I completely agree.

The tires are BFG AT KO2. I just put some on my truck that I traded in (less than 1000 miles on the tires) and the negotiating began with "how much would it cost for your parts department to upgrade the tires?" The salesman was a straight-shooter, and he told me that they can always make use of the stock tires, as they have a pretty large fleet of used vehicles, and most people would like new rubber when they buy a used vehicle. The difference was about $400. They keep the duelers or whatever, and I didn't have to sell garbage tires on craigslist. win-win.
I told him that it would make me very happy if he could include that in the price. He did, and I was right-- I was very happy.

This was the third dealership I visited, and it was worth the 1 hour drive. They made the exact vehicle I wanted appear in about 5 weeks. The other two dealers told me 90 days, which a bit of reading told me that that isn't out of the ordinary.

I've been a cooper tire owner for years, and even tried some hankooks. The BFG AT's are a good tire in terms of treadwear : aggressiveness. And they have great road manners. Highly recommended.

Life is too short for tires you don't like. I ran down the stockers on my last vehicle, and it turned in to a hydroplaning beast after about 10,000 miles.
Not doing that again. I was thrilled to pick up my new 4r with the tires I wanted, and 2 clicks on the odometer. There was a small crowd around the 4R when I arrived. It sure looks sharp with those tires. They're 265/70's, btw.

Thanks for the kind words. Maybe I'll run in to you some day JayceeP. Always nice to see another NB'r around.

regards,

-Rob

Agree with everyone on the tires. Amazing how they change the look. I'll wear down my stockers and put some more aggressive tires on once it's time.

Heh, I told my dealership that I'd charge them a $50 monthly advertising fee if they put a sticker on it.

Congrats on the new 4Runner, I'm from Cape Breton but in Calgary now. Good job negotiating on the tires, I had to sell mine off myself and it was a pain. Good tires make a huge difference, I finally had a nice set on my car before I traded it in and decided this time around to make things the way I wanted and enjoy it the whole time I owned it. Enjoy the new 4runner!

Great job on the new 4runner.

I am in Calgary and ordered the exact same one last Friday. They told me 1st or 2nd week of June to be here in Calgary.

My question is did you get anything off the sticker price? I got them down 3K.

3K is fantastic! Congrats on your order. If you spend enough time on this forum, you just might order parts before your rig arrives. It took everything I could do not to. Weathertech mats are exempt from that.

The salesman knocked the sticker price down $1900 immediately, then later added the tires at no extra cost, plus platinum extended warrantee, and agreed to a better finance rate. It's all relative though. They made a killing on my trade. Which is a very good way for dealerships to make money. I'm sure the flexibility wouldn't have existed if I didn't have a trade, or if it were a beater, etc. I didn't have the patience for a private sale, so I was looking for a fair trade based on KBB value, and someone that respected that I did my homework with regards to pricing and features. They'll get ya somewhere. Gotta keep those books balanced.
