Help me decide my tires to match the lift

Have a stage 1 icon kit coming in the mail that can lift me up to 3 inches.
I'm assuming that I need bigger tires to avoid my rig looking like a roller skater.
So i am debating on the following:

285 70 17's
Pros: Fills up those wheel wells and Added traction, also looks pretty sweet
Cons Loss of Power and MPG (I'm a sucker for MPG)

275 70 17's
Pros: Not as heavy as the 285's
Cons: odd tire size, might be hard to find a spare, and the difference might not be noticeable.

265 70 17's
Pros: Stock size, MPG should stay the same,
Cons: (possible) Roller skate look, loss of tread.
Note: May have to go with a beefier tire brand if I am sticking to this size

What do you guys think?
Does anyone have any suggestions on compensating for power/mpg loss? Is anyone still running stock tire size with a lift like this? And if so how do you like it/dislike it?

I would go with option 1 with a 3" lift. Or you can go to 265/75/16.

Interesting, that would fill up the wheel well while still maintaining the better part of the efficiency? I would have to move down an inch in rim size though. Any problems with that? I know the 4th gen had bigger brake calipers that wouldn't fit the 16"

I think the type of tire is more important then the size if you are going for looks. The aggressive tread on an AT or MT in my mind looks much better on the 4runner regardless of size. Granted for those of us who do 99.5% of street driving MT's don't make a lot of sense, but if thats what you like/want go for it.

I put on 285/70/17 on my 06 sport addition with a 3/2 Procomp spacer lift and spider trax and love the look. I did not notice any change in gas mileage.

I'm at 2" with 265/70-17 AT's and perfectly happy with the look. YMMV

You forgot to mention what you plan to do with the truck. Any real offroading?

As far as size.

285 70 or
34x10.5 ko2

Not sure if the 34 ko2 (which is really a 33.5) would fit without a little trimming, but it should be a great performing tire on and off road. A few people here have them, so you could do a search on their fitment.

2.5/1.5 and 275s. Look beefier that stock, no loss in performance/MPGs and not even close to rubbing

I'm in the same boat. Mine is leveled and I'd do an Icon lift but don't want to deal with all the BS 285 rubbing issues. I love my current 265 Duratracs but don't want to keep itty bitty titty wheels with a lift.

So... no lift for now.

4Surfin, what tire you find 275s in? They don't look like BFGoodrichs.

I'm running 265/70/17 in the Cooper ATP with my 2.5" lift and I will say that I want beefier tread. I'm sold on the stock tire size since its my DD and mpg are important to me. However those Ko2's are on my list for the next upgrade.
