Advice for 5th Gen Build

Hey guys,
I'm on the process of putting together some specs for modifying my 2014 SR5 4runner. I'm a complete noob in the realm of modifying my 4runner, so if anything seems wrong, please call it out. Here is what I'm thinking.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels: TRD Pro black wheels. Part number: PTR20-35110-BK
Tires: BF Goodrich K02s LT 275/70/17

Lift

Front: Old Man Emu 90010 NitroCharger Sport Front Strut Set
Front: Old Man Emu 2887 Front Coil Spring Set

Rear: Old Man Emu 60081 NitroCharger Sport Firm Rear Shock Set
Rear: Old Man Emu 2889 Rear Coil Set

Sliders

Sliders from Rocky Road Outfitters, already ordered.

Rockrails, rock sliders, rocker protection

Roof Rack

I don't have a Sunroof, so I want to maximize my cargo space.

Baja Long Rack + Sunroof Insert Baja Rack
Gobi Range Rack + Sunroof Insert Gobi Racks - Hummer, Jeep, Toyota Racks

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Todd

What color is your 4runner? Just curious.

Are you doing a front bumper?

It's a Silver 4runner. Eventually, when ARB comes out with a front bumper for the 2014, I intend to put that with a winch on, as well as a heavy rear bumper. That's why I'm putting the heavy duty coils on, to account for the extra weight. I'll also probably be towing a small trailer for car camping.

I see you've only had it a couple weeks. I'd suggest you drive it for about six months - in all the conditions you plan on using it in. THEN decide what you really need. It's damned capable just as it sits.

Perfect vehicle as it stands for northern Nevada terrain. Keep it stock - it'll go most anywhere as is.

I have no sun roof as well and I ordered the Gobi rack with a full mesh floor and removable rails. Lots of room and flexibility.

@Ron4RNevada . Yeah, I agree. I've done some things with it already I'm shocked it handled in it's stock form. I know I'm going to do the the larger tires and the black rims. I want the black rims for the look, and the larger tires for better traction since I only really drive it off road.

I'm not convinced I need the lift. But, I'm not a huge fan of the suspension, it's REALLY bouncy on the SR5. I'm not sure if OME is going to give me the ride I want, so wanted to get other's input who have installed it. If they are happier with it, and I'm going to change the suspension, I'll go with the lift.

What about the roof rack? Does anyone have any experience or preference for them? As I said, I want the sunroof expansion so I have full cargo space. I'm also considering the ability to sleep on the rack with some form of tent. I'm not sure yet, since if we want to drive that makes getting mobile again a bit of a pain.

^^^^^ what he said. My Gobi has the sunroof hole (I have a sunroof). Love the rack, but would ditch the cross bars for removable ones.

The rear hatch ladder is awesome.

In Denver, you might find a 4runner that already has much of your desired build. It might be nice to take a ride in such a 4runner before spending your money. In the midwest rust belt, I plan to replace vs. rebuild shocks; I chose Toytec's Bistein shocks and Eibach springs and CBI rear bumper as my first mod. The ShrockWorks front bumper and sliders took several months to arrive. Enjoy your build.

A very reputable 4x4 shop owner told me that Emu lifts rust to hell in Colorado, for what it's worth.

MN and WI use much more salt than CO. This is why I ignore advice that calls rust proofing a waste of money. I digress. Enjoy your build.

Hey guys. I'm curious why only Emu lifts rust and not others, or is this applicable to all after market lifts?

I was recommended Emu by a very reputable shop in CO, Slee off-road. They've had a lot of success with them, and guarantee the parts and their work for 7 years 100k miles.

Thoughts?

I think that comment was said tongue-in-cheek; CO uses Mag-Chloride and/or sand. That said, I'm a huge advocate for power-washing the 4Runner (self-service power-wash) at least once a month over the winter months, to ensure you wash off all that damn MgCl.

As for the lift, whatever suits your budget and meets the needs will do you just fine. Word of advice though: I would talk with T4R owners in CO that have lifted 5th men's rather than any shop. Reputable or not, they're trying to sell products and service.

Once you have solid knowledge & understanding of options from actual owners, then you can shop around for the best deal.
