Scratches way too easily!!!
I'm wondering if it's possible for Toyota to make the clear coat on this thing any softer. It scratches way too easily. I was using Turtle Wax Ice Quick Detailer Spray to do a quick wipe down of the truck. It was just washed the other day and wasn't real dirty so I was just going to do a quick clean up and use the detailer spray. I've used this product on my Tacoma and FJ and never had any issues with it causing scratches. I even use it on my Vette's and never had a problem. Well today I got halfway through wiping the truck down and noticed in several places little grey scratches, like some one took a fine tip pencil and drew a line on the truck. The rags I use are a super soft microfiber and are safe to use on a clear coat finish. Even so I checked the rag but didn't notice anything in then that would cause a scratch. The "scratches" buff right out very easily by hand so it's not that deep of a scratch. Not sure what is going on here but it's annoying and the last thing I want to do is scratch my band new truck. Looks like I'll just be washing it from now on and no more quick wipe downs.

Toyota uses a single stage white. Unless you have blizzard pearl with the metallic flake, there is no clear coat. Most people don't realize that white is pretty much the worst paint you can get from the factory.

Wow I didn't think that was a problem with white T4R's. I bought my new one in black last Saturday and if I breath on it wrong it gets micro scratches. My internet searching paranoia is telling me to buy one of those Meguiar’s DA power tools.

Black is a pain in the ass to maintain...but we knew that going into it.
Google "Toyota single stage white" and you will see what I mean. It spans their entire line up.

Black and white are my favorite car colors. But they show dirt and scratches terribly. Thats the exact reason i got the magnetic grey. Doesnt show anything.

Just looked it up, didn't know that.
And yep about the black I knew it going in. I've gotten more paranoid after buying it though, I originally was planning on just doing a drive through car wash once a week and now don't want anyone else touching her! Already ordered $100 worth of detailing shit from amazon.

I almost got magnetic grey, was between that and black but I've always wanted a blacked out truck..
To the OP, I found this article on here. Interesting read about single stage white paint.

OP, are you sure the little pencil like scratches weren't just accumulated dust from wiping it down? Only say that because it will build up in the rag and eventually it has to go somewhere. And you said it wiped right off.
Either way though, Toyota paint in general isn't great. The more you do to protect it the happier you'll be in the long run. We have two '15 SR5P's, white and Nautical Blue. I'm in for a lot of long weekends.

Black is very pretty when it's clean, problem is keeping it clean. The link to that article had some good info in it, that was a good read. I've had a white Toyota Tacoma before and never had this issue so that's why it caught me off guard. White does show dirt easy but it's also easy to keep clean. Just keep it waxed and do a deep cleaning, clay bar, and then top quality wax/polish and your good to go.
Just looks like the use of the detail spray between washes is going to have to stop. I'll just use it now for the occasional bird bombing and getting the bugs off the front.

Hmmm, I have a blizzard pearl and Im actually pretty impressed with the paint used. My 2011 black Camaro has the thinnest paint Ive ever seen on a car, nearly impossible to not causes swirl marks and any little contact with a hard object causes a scratch. The blizzard pearl however seems like it can take some abuse.

Blizzard Pearl is only available on the LE and has a clear coat. The SR5 white is Super White and it has no clear coat which sucks for me.

That is the funniest thing I have ever heard. Worse color known to man. I know, I have it.
White is very durable.
