Thinking about moving on from my 2008 to a 2015
I have a 2008 Urbran runner 4x4. 89,000 miles. Been a perfect vehicle. Runs like new. I have a 4th child on the way and am going to need a 3rd row. Looking at a 2015 sr5 premium. I have them $3,400 of the sticker price. I am unsure if I should pull the trigger.
My 08 has been perfect. I own it. I am going to have a payment with the new one. I love the 15. Bigger vehicle w/more room. Love the looks. Sounds like it wont have as much punch in the engine dept.
My wife has a 3rd row highlander. I dont technically have to have a 3rd row, but it will be more convienent. Any thoughts on the 4th vs 5th gen from those of you who have made the jump.
Thanks!

I went from a 2003 to a 2014. There is not that much more room in the 5th gen than the 4th gen. I used my rear compartment husky liner from my 4th gen in my 5th. It fits almost perfectly. The only place the 5th gen is a little bigger is the distance between the wheel wells. The 5th gen has several more inches in that area. The distance from the rear seat to the lift gate is the same according to fitment of the huskyliner. The 4th gen to 5th gen has been discussed to death on this forum already. Do a search.

get a sequoia and call it a day?
and 4 kids? whats the age span? the 3rd row in the 4runner is tight and anybody over 4-5ft likely wont be comfortable back there.

Sounds like the move to a 5th gen is just for the 3rd row that you say you dont necessarily need. I would keep what you have then. You own it, you say it runs perfect. Why add the extra expense, especially when you have a 4th child on the way?

2nd that! save your dough for the cleaning bills because, with 4 kids, there is likely to be some dung flinging going around in the backseat....

I think with the 4th child on the way you need a minivan not a 4runner with a 3rd row seat!
I have 2 kids and we make it work in our '12 CRV. But anything more than 2 kids I say you cannot beat a minivan with all the room they provide.
I say keep the 4runner since your wife has a vehicle with 3rd row already. With 4 kids IMO I would sell the highlander and buy a Odyssey or a Sienna and keep your 4runner.

No can do on the minivan. Come on you guys are suppose to tell me to buy, but you are all telling me what I have already sort of figured out. I should save the money and just keep the 08.

There is not a whole lot of upgrades from a 4th gen to a 5th gen. Interior space is about the same as noted above. Quality between the generations is debatable. Some same the 4th gen is built better some say vise versa.
Maybe wait a year until you hear news about the 6th gen 4runner when it becomes revealed? And if you do not like was the see and read you can buy a left over 2016 4runner for CHEAP because the dealers will want to make room for the new gen.
Just curious why is a minvan a no go??

I take it you haven't been in a recent sienna lately. the 2nd row captain chairs are the bomb for long trips if your in them.
they should make an option where they have vibration/massage in them when in La-Z-Boy mode.

Funny about the minivan. When my son was small (back in the 90s) I found a left over at the end of the year Dodge Caravan. My wife did not really want it but it was such a good deal we bought it anyway. It turned out to be the best thing we could have done. It turned out to be about the only vehicle we used. My son would complain all the time if we took any other vehicle. The kids love their own captions chair and climate controls etc. and they can see out easy. You can haul more crap in them than you can even imagine. Looking back a 4runner would be cramped on any kind of trip with more than one kid in my opinion.

I can say in test driving 5th gens from my 4th gen with sunroof. The 5th gen is noticeably larger in the drivers area. There is more room for my 6'4 legs that they aren't hitting the center console and my door card. Definitely something to consider with the newer models. I am upset still about no increase in engine or output eventhough it did pick up some weight to put on all those nice curves
