Copper AT3 cupping

Hey all.
I have a 2014 SR5 on stock size Cooper AT3's. Dealer pointed out some cupping 4k ago while in for maintenance. Has anyone else experienced cupping with these tires, or any other for that matter? No mods, bone stock setup. Tires have 35,000 on them since I transferred them from my 2013 at 15,000k. When I asked if the cupping could be do to alignment they said no since their alignment check was within specs. He suggested it is simply due to the fact that it's a more aggressive tread. Tires have been rotated every 5k on the mark and inflation always at 34 and checked frequently.

My girlfriends brother is a mechanic and we'll be out in PA visiting him this weekend so he offered to check the alignment and suspension as well. Any thought? Much appreciated.

How often you check tire pressure? That's what it sounds like. I've run three sets of those with no issues.

I have the same tires with the same problems, perfect tire pressure, regular rotations and they are a mess. I also had to take them off this past winter seeing they were prob the worst tire I have ever run. Just burning through them this summer and I will not replace with another Cooper product.

every week or two weeks depending on temperature and driving habits. I have noticed that one tire consistently deflates to 30psi but I keep on top of re inflating it. I've always run these tires as well on my previous 4runner and xterra and don't every remember cupping being a concern. My concern would be suspension but I'm no mechanic.

What tire do you think you will go with next? I have always liked the coopers for versatility. Quiet on road, but capable off.

We had a set of those AT3 on our grand cherokee that had a leak too. Turned out it was seeping out around the rim. I guess the bead didn't set all the way. We were out of town when I first noticed the low tire. The shop we found put some kind of sticky goo where the tire meets the rim to help seal the bead and reinflated it. We didn't have any more issues.

As for the wear, I think we only had 20k on the tires when we sold it, but no issues up to that point.

So far, happy with the ATPs on our 4Runner...

Well, I wish I could say that I trust my local dealership. I'm used to going to the dealership, but it seems that at every corner they are coming up with excuses. I think I have to find another shop that maybe pays more attention to alignment, and not so much to their bottom line. I would like to stick with the coopers, but have also been looking at the BFG KO2, but have no experience with them. Anyone wanna chime in on those? And has anyone use then new cooper ATW's yet?

I had Duratracs on my Tacoma and they were pretty good, although I only had 15,000 kms on them when I sold it. So either another set or the KO2's depending on what will be in stock and what will have a rebate on at the time.

I had a set of the AT3's on my last vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) for about 25,000 miles before I traded it...no issues at all, I thought they were great tires.

What size are your tires/wheels? Wider tires running on a skinny wheel will cup as well.

I'm running stock SR5 wheels. So 7" wide. I had thought of this as well since Cooper has a range of 7-9.5 in wheel width for the AT3's on their specks. Have been thinking of the FN pro wheels to increase wheel width to 8

Hmm, that may be your problem. Depends on if they call 7" the minimum width from a safety standpoint or a longevity standpoint.

I plan on getting the ATW's when my stock tires run down (if I can stand waiting). I think they are almost identical to the AT3's but with added siping for better winter traction.

I've had day1 balancing issues with my AT3s since I've had them on my FN 6shooters. I'm told they maybe the tires. I bought them thru a 3rd party, so I can't even get a warranty. Lesson learned.
