2016 TRD PRO or 2016 Trail Premium?
Sup guys. I'm trying to decide between one of these 2. I've compared the 2 and so far the differences are KDSS, moonroof on the TEP, and wheels, suspension on the TRD PRO. I'll probably off-road 2-4 times a month, nothing too crazy. The price difference is about 2k. I'm leaning toward the PRO because I like the look of it, off-road capability for both are probably pretty similar. I searched this topic and found a little bit, but I want more opinions on which T4R would be the better purchase. I'm sure others have had to choose between these. So please chime in with some opinions and insights and why you chose 1 vs the other.
Thanks in advance
I have a TRD PRO on order, but it's not due till around November.

Since you have a TRD Pro on order, must be what you wanted, could have ordered anything...go with your initial gut...almost 60 years of life experiences tells me you will be happier...

Get the pro if you like it more and if you want even more thumbs up on the road. Get the trail if you will not regret getting the pro and can make use of the the extra $2K.

Trail Premium. KDSS > Bilstein Shocks.
For the price difference - choose the aftermarket offroad suspension of your liking.

TRD Pro versus Trail Edition Premium
The only thing the TEP gives you that the TRD Pro doesn't is the sunroof. The KDSS on the Trail is great but it can be harder to install a long travel lift with it on the vehicle. The TRD Pro has a Bilstein shocks, an aluminum front skid plate and a black grill and bumper plates. You can duplicate the TRD Pro suspension on a Trail Edition for less money and get the moonroof if that's what you want. Both vehicles will come from Toyota with a lot of expensive accessories, unless you special order it with the features you want or don't want.
I didn't want the features of either vehicle so I chose the Trail Edition with KDSS. With my fair skin I can't open a sunroof anyway. The Softex seats are nice if you like that upholstery, but it is not leather.
I would have bought the Sandstone color if it were available when I ordered in June of this year. I just picked up my new T4R TE and I like it a lot.

are you going to switch out the suspension for something better in the future? are you wanting to lift it and fit bigger tires? if those answers are no, then get the Pro and be happy.
if yes, save yourself the money and get the TEP

This has been discussed ad nauseum.
Here's how I decided between TEP and TRDP. TRDP is going to be better out of the box suspension wise, the bilstiens are sexy and you pay for that. The TEP you will likely want to upgrade the suspension almost immediately. Theres no sense in paying extra for the TRDP suspension then ripping it out and paying again, unless the badging is that important to you.
I ended up going with the TEP because I wanted a project truck although I did consider TRDP Inferno because of the 'collector' aspect.
Like other posters said, follow your gut.

Unless you want the exclusive color, I don't think the pro is quite worth it. BUT, its really up to you and what you like or want.

Do you wear flat brimmed hats, drink Monster by the case, have a neck tattoo, and have an obsession with washing and waxing things and then photographing them?
or...
Do you scratch and dent your new 4Runner before your first payment then laugh it off?

I'll say that KDSS gives the 4runners an improved manner on paved road.
TRD wheels are nice... I scored 4 for $745.
You could easily take a TEP that offers a larger variety of colors (except the new kahki TRDP)and make it look like a TRDP for the $2K savings and have the moonroof and KDSS of the TEP.
Ultimately they're both nice trucks and you'll be happy with either.
