Normal to leave aftermarket parts on when totaled?

What the heck , insurance won't let you take your stuff? This 4runner still has the Gobi Rack, Ladder, high lift.....dual battery kit....and SPOD?

Wow... It's almost worth it for someone with a MGM to buy just for a full set of spare parts... I can't figure out what's wrong with it, other than the mystery item in the grill.

Not if it's Repo'd. That 4runner has 149 miles on the odo and no visible damage. It's selling with a clear California title. It's not a normal insurance auction. Not sure what's wrong with it, but my guess is that it was repo'd or theft recovery and that probably explains why none of the aftermarket stuff is taken off.

Sometimes they won't let you get your stuff off, no. And sometimes the owner leaves it on because he had a shop install all that bling because he's scared of a wrench. And sometimes that stuff is insured too and the owner sells it all with the truck because he's going to start over with something else.

For damage it says "Other, front end, bio-hazard"..... what the heck does that mean? Did they take it to the MOON?

Block heater cord. Someone loved this truck. Dual Batteries. Likely someone here.

Almost looks like a thermostat on the last photo.

The biohazard part is the key, I think.

i had to get into a dick measuring contest with my insurance over the parts they were removing from my truck after the collision. i wanted my bumper and my tires and they were laying claim to them. i told them no and they said they had every right to lay claim to parts that they were replacing. i told them to show me the document i signed that said that was okay when i authorized the work and asked if i needed to speak to my lawyer. they relented.

You have a good point, I need to call my insurance and talk over with them the right answers for all the aftermarket stuff on and normally in the 4runner.

I'm thinking it's something like a dead skunk in the A/C vents.

No you don't. Insurance is a losing proposition even when you NEED it, and if you don't need it it's just throwing money out the door.

You don't NEED all the extras on and in your truck, you'll survive just fine if they get stolen down the line, so you don't NEED to insure them. Take the money you would be spending buying an insurance CEO a new yacht, and put it in an emergency bank account instead. You get to keep your money, you get to keep the interest on your money, and you get more flexibility in how it gets used. You'll always be money ahead in the long run.

Last time I saw a car at the junkyard with a biohazard sticker on it, there were some very interesting rust stains in the carpet...

I prefer to make that call once I know the actual cost and details of coverage but thanks for the advise. I agree in general as a society/culture we feel the need to over insure with things like whole life, cell phone coverage, electronics coverage, extended warranties etc but each person has different risk tolerances and preferences on how they spend cash so at the end of the day as along as I am not paying for your care in jail or welfare checks and your family is well looked after how you spend your money (even on a TRD Pro) is up to you.
