Oil Dipstick

Does anyone else have trouble seeing the level on the stick? I get this every time I change the oil where I can't really see a definite level. The oil is so light it barely shows up. I end up putting in the 6+ litres and eventually I see what might be the level where it should be. Anyone have a solution to it?

I've never checked the dipstick on my 2011 with 126K miles. Measured amount of oil at oil changes only.

Sand the end with some rough sandpaper and you can see the level much better.

I agree with all of the above. I find it really tricky to see the oil level on the dipstick so I typically rely on putting in the 6.2L when I change the oil. I'm going to try the sandpaper trick next time I'm in the garage.

I use a paper towel. I pull the dip stick out and hold it against the paper towel and the oil transfer shows up on the towel. I like to keep it simple.

i have used the sandpaper trick on my last 2 vehicles and will likely do the same with the 4 runner. makes it much easier to see the level.

Even with new oil in the engine I find it easier to read the level after the engine has cooled over night.

For me, the angle of the stick and the lighting make a difference in seeing the level on the stick.

i drilled 2 more small holes in the dipstick. the first hole in the middle of the two dimples and the other hole between the middle hole and the top dimple. works much better.
