"Been lurking around for some time and doing as much reading as I can, didn't quite read all 150+ pages, did read a nice chunk of it though. I picked up a 2019 4runner SR5 Premium mostly for fishing and camping. which turned into overlanding/offroading. After a ton of reading I decided to go with:
Dobinsons IMS Suspension Kit Toyota 4Runner 2010-21
* C59-300 - 1.75 - 2" lift in the front, haven't decided where i'll land yet
* C59-325 - 2" lift in the rear
JBA UCA's in standard for it's reliability and ease of replacement parts should i need them in a hurry.
I'm more of a weekend warrior than anything, the 4runner is my DD so I'm trying to balance ride quality, MPG, acceleration etc with capability. I live in Colorado, run trails once a month and fishing the rest of the time, so generally dirt roads and level 1 or 2's will get me to most fishing spots but i'm not shy about pushing the 4runner harder if it means better fishing / views (photography). What draws me to the AT3W's is it's such a great all around tire sans balancing issues. The most difficult trails I've ran so far are Tin Cup Pass (in 2019) and Imogene last year. I don't envision myself running any trails more difficult than either of those and i'm more a fair weather off-roader.
After reading this thread i'm still on the fence on the Falken AT3W WildPeaks due to balancing issues. My initial plan was to go with 275/70R17 but am considering the 285's which is why I picked up the UCA's, even if I don't go with 285 they'll still be of help. I'm planning on regearing to 4.56 in the future, not sure when (likely in the next couple of years).
To the best of my knowledge, if i go with 275's i can stay on the stock SR5 wheels, if i go up to 285, i believe I'll need spacers (1.25") or a new set of wheels with a -10mm offset?
I'm torn between the SL and C rated tires. I like the idea of a SL rated tire for MPG and comfort, just a bit worried about longevity. I believe mast4r said the C wouldn't provide more protection than an SL, it will however likely wear down faster than a C rated tire? Given my usage though, maybe it won't matter too much?
Considering the weight of the tires, if I do go for a C tire it'll be in 275's or SL if I go to a 285 i think. The last option i suppose is, i could always wait a bit longer, try to find a lighter wheel to help offset the weight of the tires a bit.
I'd be open to other options provided they perform as well as the AT3W's do. Deceiver mentioned the MT01's, after looking at the weight though i'm worried about breaking power on the heavier tires.
Thanks!"
Hi,
I'm in a very similar position as you. I just went to 275/70/17 C loads yesterday after I saw a puncture on the stock H/T yesterday (it couldn't be repaired because it was too close to the sidewall: this is also the second puncture I've had in about the 30k miles the vehicle has been driven since it came off the lot in early 2018). I'm running an Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro Stage 3 suspension (went on in January) with about 2.5" and 2" of lift in the front and back, respectively (this includes UCAs that come with the kit). I don't know if I can feel the difference in unsprung weight quite just yet, but it does seem to ride nicer/smoother in the little bit of street driving I've done so far. My initial thought was to get FN wheels, but I'm going to keep them on the stock SR5 wheels for now. I'm trying to keep the rig as close to stock as possible while upgrading functionality (ditch lights, LFD crossbars instead of a roof rack, other lighting upgrades, etc.): the thought of having to modify the vehicle just so I can run rims I like seems a little backwards to me, especially if the stock rims will take the tires I wanted. Also, with the vast majority of my offroading being on forest roads and tracks out here in SoCal, I don't need tires/suspension that are more extreme.
