The Toyo open country AT II's come in a 285/75/17. At least they used to when I bought some a couple years ago. Great all around tire.

They seem to be a blend of the cooper AT3 and ST MAXX, like a better version of the AT3 with not so boring sidewalls. In std load 265/70/17 they are 3 pounds heavier than the std AT3. They're also made with silica tread compound like the AT3, and have full depth sipes.
1st: Falken
2nd: AT3
3rd: ST Maxx

I like the look of the Wildpeak at3w... i currently have cooper AT3s and am very happy with them. I'd like to see the wildpeak's in person...

As an insider, I'll squash a few (weird) rumors.
Falken Tire, is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, a Japanese company. Sumitomo/Falken makes all of it's tire in their own Factories, they do not buy private label from their competitors. Factories are laid out throughout Asia, with much of the US supply coming from Thailand. There is no correlation to any Cooper or Hankook tires (they suck anyways).
Dunlop is actually a brand of ours. Before SRI was established in the US, SRI decided to enter into partnerships with Goodyear, and gave away parts of the Dunlop brand. We are slowly getting those parts back as partnerships end, but Goodyear is resisting.
The Wildpeak AT3W is an all new design, and is not a "minor" change to the previous Wildpeak AT1 or AT2. Those lines have been discontinued and are slowly being sold out. The AT3W was released on February 1st of this year, however not all sizes have reached the US yet. The new tread design is one of the deepest tread depths on the market and the tires have a border line Mud tire look, while maintaining an excellent A/T on road feel and wear. Much of the technology in this tire is brand new and at the top of the industry, and data is showing that these tires are testing well above our competition, and even above the likes of the heralded KO2. All sizes carry a 55k mile tread warranty including the LT sizes, and all sizes carry the Severe Snow Rating.
Once you see these tires in person you will be impressed. I can go on, but I won't, because you already think I am biased. Just know that I have worked for other manufacturers, and right now, this is what I would put on my 4Runner regardless of my employer.
One last thing, Nitto is part of Toyo Tire. The corporation has the unique policy that they will not sell Toyo's to a Nitto dealer and vice versa.

Deeper than Duratrac's?.....that will be interesting to see...

No where close, terra grapplers are a square edge tire, these are rounded, tread pattern is slightly similar

Doesn't come in 275/70R17. It's a shame because I would have considered them. As it stands, still getting the KO2's.

Oh but they do and only $208 a piece. This will be my next tire. Saw them in person the other week and they are a very nice tire. Nothing like the old wildpeaksa and have an aggressive sidewall which is nice.

I currently have the 255/80/17 STmaxx but after getting annoyed with the road noise and load e stiffness I went to my local tire shop, looked at P-Metric 265/70/17 AT3W and compared to the cooper AT3.
Looking at all 3 tire treads next to each other, they all look similar in tread depth, inner tread spacing, and overall tread aggressiveness.
I won't go into details but the Falken in person looks the same as the stmaxx but the outer lugs are spaced closer together similar to the AT3. To me this means the AT3W will be quiet similar to the AT3!
I decided to get the Falkens because they have an aggressive sidewall like the stmaxx but should have the quietness of the AT3. BTW...Cooper should put some sidewalls on that AT3!
After install, first impressions are WOW!! They are obviously not as harsh as the stmaxx from design and not a fair comparison but man NO BS they are smooth and quite like the original stock dunlops. I really couldn't hear any road noise, and surprisingly smooth! They seem to handle the same if not slightly better than the skinny stmaxx. I really don't see much difference in overall looks to my 4Runner either.
Time will tell though.

Nice! Still liking them? I'm in the same boat and considering these over the ST MAXX due to potential road noise.

@ jaboki
they've been on shy of a week but I've been extremely pleased so far and especially in the wet weather we're having. I'm itching to take them through some mud! My mpg have increased by 2mpg in city driving. They are very quite but like all tires I'm sure they will get a bit louder. I can confidently say the stmaxx straight out the tire shop were louder than these, and that's by design. The stmaxx are load e and have wider spaced outer lugs...I have the falken at3w in standard load or p-metric so it's not a fair comparison. Someone needs to buy the load e falken at3w and put it next to the stmaxx for a fair comparison. The stmaxx aren't as loud as a mud tire but you can hear them.
If I had to do it all over again Id go with the std Falkens at3w over the stmaxx soley based on road noise and softer ride. 90% of the time I'm on pavement, the other 10% is off-road but nothing extremely brutal, that's why we all have spare tires.
