Removed Crossbars, removed caps too!

I wanted to remove the crossbars, so I did. I decided to leave the rear caps off. I did add little covers for the bolts. Does it look weird? I kinda like it.

replace the roof rack end caps

It's very unfinished for a car that has smooth lines everywhere else. It looks like it will be a dirt catcher too. I have the side rails and no cross bars and it looks good to me. See my Post in the "What did you do in your 5th Gen today, last page as of today. You'll see how I compensated for having no cross rails to haul lumber.

Just looks like it's missing some pieces. I'd throw them back on if it were me, but it's your rig.

Yeah- sorry but that looks like crap.

Here's the correct way to do it:
DIY: Roof Rack Delete (w/ pics)

Did you notice any change in wind noise with the crossbars removed? The reason I ask is my truck is a 2015 it does not have any crossbars and it seems much more wind noise than my 13 which had the crossbars. Thanks for any feedback

Just paint them while they're off. Super easy. I used the krylon fusion, or whatever it's called, that's designed for plastic bonding. I used the rustoleum bedliner on the rails. Looks good black.

Looks good! Did you use Scotch Bright pads to scuff it or paint it as is?

I used a lifter for a paint can / works great. Pull the cap towards you a little from the inside, slide lifter between the rubber seal and cap (on the outside) - then pry up gently.

I used a low grit sanding block. It's held up really well, did it about 7 months ago.

Guess I'm the only other guy who liked it with the caps off, but some valid points where brought up - dirt catcher, maybe wind noise and the fact that my wife hated it. It may be a more appropriate look for a Jeep Wrangler, which is designed with exposed mechanical structures - nuts & bolts, welded seams, etc.

I'm just deleting mine for now, the right way, with the delete kit, as was suggesred in Antman's reply. Although, be advised that some of the part numbers may have changed recently. I will wait and see if the parts department ordered the right stuff before posting a reply with the new numbers in the the Rack Delete thread, in case anyone is interested in doing the same thing.
