Trail premium entune system?
Yes I have searched.
I know some people like to change out the dash speakers, but beyond that how is the quality of the Trail Entune syste vs the Limited JBL entune? Im trying to decide if I want to upgrade my current 2011 Trail to a Limited or another Trail. Main reason is the interior, I hate the cloth seats, need seat heaters, and dont want to spend 3k to add leather and seat heaters, plus a new nav headunit to my existing vehicle.
My current non nav radio sound is fine, but I want the camera in the dash, not the tiny mirror unit I have. I also like nav in the dash, not my phone.
My wife has a new highlander and the premium audio in that thing is AWFUL.
The hvac in my current Trail is also very poor, has that improved at all between 2011 and 2016?
Im not too concerned about full time vs part time 4wd, each has its merits. Basically I want a more durable, comfortable interior, and NO 3rd ROW, so tell me your thoughts on the current entune system in the trail. Thanks
By the way, in my search I have come to the conclusion that there is no other vehicle on the market that competes with a 4runner.

I've got a Trail Non-premium, and I've been surprisingly pleased with the quality of sound from it. I've also been in a Premium JBL Highlander, and I can honestly say it is crap compared to mine. If you're not looking for mirror rattling bass, I think you will be very pleased with the Non-JBL system.
as far as Entune goes, I've been back and forth on this. Overall I'd say I like it well enough that I have no plans to spend a thousand dollars and put in an after market head unit. There are a few things with the system that I find annoying, for example if you choose for the system to read an incoming text or email, once completed it will start the song that you were on over from the beginning. Small problems, but gets frustrating. Other than that I really have no problems with it. It serves its purpose well.
I prefer Cloth.

I'm pretty impressed with the audio system in my Trail Premium. It's a little thick on the bass, and I wish I had more control than just highs, mids, and lows...but, for a stock system, it's better than the upgraded system that was in my Outback, and better than the stock system in the 2015 Tacoma I had.
Put it this way, I don't see myself upgrading anything in order to make classical sound cleaner or rap to have deeper lows. But I'm also not expecting this system to sound like a concert hall.

Sounds like a test drive is what you need.

I upgraded the sound system in my Trail with entune, not so much because of the sound quality, but it just didn't get loud enough for me. Obviously that's entirely subjective and personally my car has always been my sanctuary where I can listen to music as loud as I want. If you're just looking for something to fill the dead air and crank it up every now and then, you'll probably find it satisfactory.
In regards to the functionality of the entune head unit, it does a fine job day-to-day, but some of the features aren't the most user friendly. I have no problems with syncing and switching between bluetooth audio, Pandora etc., and it's easy to adjust the EQ. The steering wheel controls are also nice to have. My complaint would be that it can frustrating to input Nav destinations and the nav UI is not very user friendly, since almost every function requires the vehicle to be stopped to make changes. Note: I do not have the latest entune update which supposedly updated the Nav app. Also, although I never changed any settings it stopped notifying/reading my text messages. It was a fun novelty for a while, because on Android you can send a reply text from a handful of pre-programmed messages. My friends would know I was driving because no matter what they texted, I would always respond with "You're the best".
Stop by the dealership and test it out. It only takes 30 sec to sync your phone and try out all the features.
I also forgot to mention that the rear camera is awesome. It makes life so much easier and it's something you use almost every time you drive.

I am impressed with the JBL in my Limited but I have do not have any experience with the SR5 or Trail. Also the hvac in the Limited is dual control auto temp. It seems adequate to me even on 115 degree days in Arizona. Again no other 4runner to compare it to. It never gets cold enough here to use the heated seats. The cooled seats work nice but are a little noisy on high speed.

it is a decent system unless you are a true audio enthusiast.

I guess it depends on if you are 20 years old verses 60 years old. I am an old geezer and think it is fine.

I'm 25, and have owned one of those bass knockers (multiple subs in the trunk). I have no care to ever have something like that again, but I was also surprised to hear the stock Trail sound adequate to my taste. It needs the 3.5" dash speakers replaced for it lacks in the treble department, but other than that it's really great.
I guess the consensus of my ramblings is, I agree.

I haven't had mine on a very hot summer day yet, but I am very pleased with how the AC performs. I think it blows my old Acura TL out of the water.
As far as the heater goes, I slept in the back on a cold night a few weeks back (got down in the lower 30's). When I woke, I turned the truck on and the heater then wen't back to sleep for about 10 minutes. Was then awakened by me sweating in my sleeping bag. So, long story short, I think you will be pleased with its performance.

I like the factory Entune unit. The menus and operation of the radio/USB/AUX are good. I use a small thumb drive for all my music and it sounds good. The navigation is just ok, it doesn't always pick the best route and entering addresses is not as simple as it should be. You have to use the voice feature to input while driving which can be a pain sometimes. The points of interest works well though.
As far as the sound it is good. The factors speakers aren't that great, very muddy. Once you replace them though the headunit puts out good clean sound. The EQ is pretty lacking with just treble, mid and bass.
The backup camera is great. Ive never had an issue with it.
I haven't actually been inside and used a pre-2014 HVAC but it looks the same in pictures. I would assume it is the same. I have no complaints with mine, its cold in the summer and heats up pretty quick in the winter. It doesn'td have the dual zone or digital readout that the limited has. I have the premium so I do have the heated seats which are nice.

My F150 had a Pioneer DVD system and four Infinity Kappas and that system rocked...I am 57 and really like techno stuff.
The system in my 2015 TP is OK, too much bass, can use some speakers. I am going to start with the dash and then work backwards.
I was listening to Kid Rock on CD this morning and I realized that I need some new speakers. I have the 5x7s from the F150, these may go in he 4Runner.

I think my trail premium has the best sounding speakers out of any factory speakers I have had. I do wish the heat got hotter a little faster. My seat warmers heat up fast enough to compensate though.
