4 holes needed to be drilled, these are to prevent sliding. I kind of set up everything without the holes, then once I was satisfied with its placement, I marked and drilled. Seemed easier and better to do it that way. In the manual they ask you to drill first, but thought it would be better to place it all first exactly how I wanted it...which was better.

Rhino Pioneer Platform

I was looking into these platforms awhile ago and wondered what was involved. Thanks to your install and pics, I was able to pick up the same size platform off of Ebay (listed for a 03-09 GX470) and a CXB leg set. Aside from utility purposes of having a cargo platform, I can now use my Thule Ascent 1100 cargo box. To save on cost, the Unistrut channel nuts fit in the channels of this platform. Just get eye bolts and some large washers and you have your own eye bolt kit.

Thule on Rhino Rack

Love mine also! Picked up the Rhino Rack accessory bar and was able to put my Thule cargo box.
Not as low profile as when I had the box on the stock roof rack bars on my 2005 4runner (damn 2016 shark fin. grr), but it works!
Rear door is within an inch of the cargo box when opened.

It's aussie made, so it's not cheap. $629 for the rack and another $170 for the SX clamps to attach to your rails.
Looks real clean, I'm very interested.

What size did you get? And did you consider the Pioneer Elevation (the same as yours but with side rails)?

how many inches is this whole setup when measured from the roof? Trying to do some measurements right now to see what setup will work best. Need to clear underground garage heights of 6 feet 5 inches.

Rhino Rack- Very Happy

I had this rack installed in the fall of last year with a sunseeker awning at Rack outfitters in Austin. I like that its light weight and has endless ways to spend your $$ on accessories. Its real easy to tie stuff down and when properly done, nothing moves AT ALL.

Pass on expensive ladders

I also picked up this aluminium stool on black Friday for $20 @ Lowes. It comes in super handy when i'm working on the rack and also serves as a great table for me when i eat! Ladder cant do dat!

just a head's up for the Rhino Rack. They will be coming out with the Backbone system this spring for the 4Runner. That will take the place of the factory rack and look very clean. They have it for the Tacoma so you can check out what it will kinda look like.

Removed rack, removed rails and painted them black... This is the final result. Anyone need the factory crossbars? Took those off while the rails were off.

You honestly made this rack look much better than the company has. Lol, this is a serious contended on the rack list now!!

Did you consider the Rhino BackBone?

I have a TRD Pro on order and I'm starting to look at goodies...of course. Do you think this rack/rail system is strong enough for a hardshell rooftop tent and 2 people?

Truck looks great btw!

Ordered the 74" pioneer platform w the backbone system. Should be arriving this week. Load rating is 220lb on road, 700lb static (parked). Out the door for at least $3-400 less than front runner, and doesn't require any drilling into my roof.
