New TRD Pro with SAI out of Spec and Oscillation
Hello folks,
I have a small oscillation coming from the right side (16 TRD Pro). It varies at different speeds. Dealer aligned although not sure they have the correct specs in the machine yet. They said it was due to the offroad tires (stock Nitto Grappler), I'm not buying it.
Two questions I have:
1-Should I be concerned with the SAI being out of spec (13.5 left, 13.3 Right) on a new vehicle with less than 700 miles!? Read online it seems to deal with steering wheel re-centering after a turn. What if anything should I do about it?
2-My guess is the oscillation is an unbalanced tire. How noisy are your Grapplers and do you feel/hear any oscillation?
Thanks!

Zero oscillation on my 15. The steering wheel was off centered by about 5 degrees when I got it, but they straightened that up and I was on my way. The grapplers are not noisy at all...not even a little bit in my opinion.

if the SAI is out of spec it could be a bent steering component, it wouldn't be due to Nitto Tires. I am run swampers with SAI in spec

Mine is quiet with no vibration. An unbalanced or out of round tire would be my guess too.

So, the dealer says it's the tires, eh? So, it's the stock tires, on a stock, new, 4R, right?
It's under warranty, right?
You need to man up and make them fix it, regardless of what it is. The implication that "it's the tires", would imply that every TRDP would have the problem, and that just ain't so.
Oh, and standby for them to blame you for going offroad, or hitting a curb.

That alignment sheet shows SR5. I beleive the Pro comes with a factory lift which will affect the front numbers. SAI and caster would be off in relation to an SR5 if i am reading that right.

I don't totally understand how you could have SAI out of spec but Camber in spec unless the spindle is out of tolerance. Or possibly the wheel bearing unit is out of spec.

Being that all other angles look good, and SAI just slightly out of spec, I don't think I would worry about it too much. Also, the TRDP is lifted a little in the front but still uses OEM UCA's, I say this because you see it on both sides. You may want to ask the shop when the last time the alignment rack was calibrated.

My 2016 had an oscillation issue also that occurred at about 60mph. Took it back to the dealer and they rebalanced my wheels and redid alignment. Still slightly pulls right though. They peeled off the previously placed weights and repositioned new ones. Now I have leftover sticky stuff left from the other wheel weights. Any ideas on what would take that stuff off?

If you have a TRDP, Do you happen to have a copy of your alignment sheet? Please upload so we can all see the specs.

Dealer re-balanced front left tire, all good now! The oscillation is gone.
Tires are a little on the noisy side but I can get used to it. It is a mean machine after all!
I may look into some of the sound deadening mods in this forum.
