touch screen problem, half doesn't work

On my 2010 limited, the left 40% of the touch screen isn't working. I can press it as hard as I possibly can or hold my finger there for some time and nothing happens. Its been like that for months. I don't use the touch screen much only when I want to change CDs. This happen to any of ya? I search but found nothing similar.

So you're complaint is that the touch screen portion is not functioning, but the rest of the screen looks good?

Have you tried running a business card between the bezel and the screen itself slowly to get any dirt/debris out that could be pressing on the screen?

Yes, left half (40%) doesn't respond to pressure or anything. The right half is working fine.

I will try the business card trick and report back. Thank you sir.

Yes. For example, there are 6 preset radio stations. Anything on the left of it doesn't respond to touch but the other half is fine, working perfect.

I just did the business card trick with no luck. Not much dirt in there. Anymore suggestions please.

The above poster is a robot, they just copy/paste portions of the text in the thread for whatever reason...

Sounds like the issue is probably with the head unit unfortunately.

What you can try for some more testing is entering "Diagnostic Mode"

While pressing and holding the "INFO" switch, operate the light control switch: off → turn on → Turn off → turn on → turn off → turn on → turn off.

There's some sub menus and such for testing the touch screen and stuff, you can exit the mode by simply cycling the ignition. You may also want to try pulling the radio fuse for an hour or two and then reinstalling; that should drain the memory and default the unit to factory specs. If that doesn't work I'd see if you can find a shop that rebuilds headunits and/or think about going aftermarket as it's probably an issue with the touchscreen portion itself.

Post Note-

If you have extended warranty it may cover the headunit?

Advice for the future....generally pressing really hard will do nothing, and could break something that is potentially fixable.

Thanks again for the info. Will give it a go tomorrow. It just turned 50k miles, no warranty. Its over. I can't get my dealer to take care of the clicking on the lumbar support. They simply refuse. I brought it to their attention at 25000 miles. The clicking used to drive me nuts and would happen when I hit the brakes. I am used to it now so I will just let it go. They wouldn't do a thing about it.

I am not sure if its worth rebuilding as I almost never use the touch screen. I almost use the map. heck the radio is barely on most days. Drives me nuts is when I need to make the map bigger and it wouldn't respond. Report back tomorrow.

This happened to my IS350 and is unfortunately a relatively common problem on the earlier model years of those cars. Eventually the entire screen became unresponsive to touch and it had to be replaced.

Hopefully you won't have to through the same hassle.

what did you ended up with? Another toyota unit or aftermarket. I don't know what's out there and how much? Will another Toyota unit do the same thing over time since they are the replacement?

I still have to do the test Blackworks suggested. This work thing is screwing up my play time.
