Clicking/tapping/rattle sound in passenger floorboard area.

I have a 2015 TEP with 15k miles on it. I have a rattle/vibration noise in the passenger floorboard area that is driving me nuts and I can't locate it. Anyone else had this issue?

It happens when the truck gets to a certain RPM. I've located it around 800rpm(truck in drive, foot on brake) and around 1800rpm(driving in 5th gear smooth flat road). It sounds like plastic on plastic so I started by removing my Weathertech floormats and removing everything from the glove compartment. That didn't make a difference. Turning the AC/heat blower motor up to a higher speed sometimes makes the sound stop. It does it with the fan on or off. I've had passengers try putting their hands around door panels, glove compartment door and even the underside but nobody can find it. I took a video but it's hard to hear. I'll see if I can get a better one today. It sounds like it's coming from under the dash itself but it's hard to determine. It is coming from inside the vehicle and sounds like 2 pieces of plastic tapping against each other.

I have this issue as well. It's definitely coming from under the glove box near the compressor/fan thing you can feel when you reach underneath the dash. It started out every once in a while, but has progressed to rattling when truck is idling at stop lights.

I would expect this from a Ford, but a Toyota!??

I've decided to get some foam padding and cut into small wedges, and then place them in between anything I can feel under the dash that could be tapping/making contact while engine is running.

I had a problem with a slight tapping/clicking noise coming from the passenger side as well. Mine was more around the mid to upper dash area. I found that I was able to stop the noise by wiping my hand over the passenger dash speaker with some reasonable pressure. Not sure if this is going to fix your problem, but it solved mine. I don't know if it was a static issue causing feedback from the speaker or if the speaker itself was loose.

Just a shot in the dark, but do any of your vehicles have the manual 4wd shift lever and not the knob?

If so, do you have anything sitting in that shift gaiter? Once in a while, I put my shades in there, and it rattles at certain rpms, sounds like it is coming from the footwell area, as soon as I move whatever's sitting in there, noise is completely gone.

Try this next time you hear it, push forward on the 4wd shifter, see if it goes away. Don't pull it down into 4wd, just push towards the dash to make it stop vibrating.

I had this on my 2015. Ended up being the plastic piece of the lower dash under the glove box vibrating against the metal support. Slapped a piece of 3M foam tape behind it and viola.... drove me crazy trying to figure it out

I had this same problem from the day I took delivery. At first I thought that it was the plastic cover that hides the blower motor. Ended up taking to dealer and was able to get the service manager to hear the noise. He looked underneath the dash after taking off the cover, and he ended up moving some wiring harnesses around. It's been 3 months and over 3K miles and no rattling, but still keeping my fingers crossed

There's a noise thread on here somewhere that ended up being a wire loom or a tie wrap in the console - like behind the HVAC controls. More than one person had it. Had good pics too.

Maybe someone remembers ....

I did narrow it down to not being the speakers. That was the first place I looked.

This is what I thought it was at first when it was intermittent but then I drove around with my hand on the shifter and it still did it.

This sounds helpful. Does the plastic piece unscrew or snap out?

I will check this today. I missed this thread in the past.

I will be securing the harnesses when I pull off the cover to put 3M tape on it.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. I believe this is the exact location & sound I am experiencing, and will try this once I get to the casa.

Did anyone ever solve this rattle, and what to do exactly to fix it? What was stated above describes the noise to a T.

If I press on the compressor type assembly right above the rear part of the floor mat area, the noise stops. I've tried to wedge pieces of weather stripping ect. in different areas, but the noise continues....

The quote below from another member above, also describes the rattle/vibration noise very well:

"I have this issue as well. It's definitely coming from under the glove box near the compressor/fan thing you can feel when you reach underneath the dash. It started out every once in a while, but has progressed to rattling when truck is idling at stop lights.
