Need a sanity check

Hi guys, I'm considering going 3hrs out of state to buy a Blue Trail Premium with KDSS that I pine for.

Is $39700 a good price for this? Sticker is $41600

That's similar to what I paid with remote start.

Do some playing around with Truecar.com. That's what I used and you can see if you're getting a good price.

I paid a little over $1000 less in 2014 for my 2014 TEP w/ KDSS but it did not have sliding tray. I would say if thats got the sliding tray it's a fair deal but even if it has if you haven't pushed back I would shoot for $500 more, if you have already pushed back and its exactly what you want don't fret over saving 500-1000 on a 40k purchase. Good luck with the Purchase

Salesmen and dealers have to eat to. Don't get sucked into the other sales offers such as dent repair, wheel repair, warranties, tint, remote start etc....almost always can get way cheaper elsewhere

It's not a bad price. That's about what they are going for in Los Angeles with KDSS. IF it's the one you want, get it. You aren't going to save thousands of that price.

3 hrs is nothing, that's not even part of the conversation in my mind. That's what, 150 miles -ish? Pshhh.

The conversation is do you feel happy with the deal you're getting for the rig that you want. My only advice is to NOT be sucked into a feeling of "I have to do this NOW or the deal will fall through / someone else will be willing to pay more", etc. because that's how you end up with buyer's remorse.

There are always deals that fall through... though I'd nearly always advise patience with dealers, let them come to you. They don't want your down payment / finance charges walking out the door just as much if not more than you want your new ride. Look around the site at the approximately 100k "what price are people paying for X or Y T4R OUT THE DOOR" () threads and make sure you're happy with the price for the area you're in and options installed... and yes, rarity of the vehicle.

I'll say that based on what I've seen that seems like a pretty decent deal for what you described. There's a '15 super white Trail without KDSS with 8k miles on it in my area that the dealer is asking over 38k for, and I'll bet someone pays it or very close.

Good luck.

I got a 5.6% discount off of MSRP on my old 2013 Trail, not a great deal, but probably good for a Toyota dealer. If you really want it, get it. A few $$ more over the long run won't matter and you will get what you wanted.
3 years later and I'm still very happy with mine.

I don't know what the market is for 4runner these days are.

but when I got my subie recently I got 10 % of the sticker price. And that is subaru which moves a lot less cars. I would think you could do the same with toyota. Note that every other subaru dealer was at sticker price, or 1-2 % off it. I got 10. So Just because they say its impossible, means it is. Just negate every sentence they say. If its impossible it is. XD.

Throw out a crazy number like 15%, if he says get the hell out then you know you are too low. make them work for their money. tease the heck out of them. My dad got a ~10-11k off limited V8 in 04. Not sure the precentage, but that was when oil was at all time high, and they lot of 30 V8 engines that no one wanted...

if you think its a good price go to 2 other dealers and throw 1k less. if they are willing to close you know you can do better...

The mark up on additional options are more. so you can always haggle for more.

I'd go with 37440, which is 10% and see where you get.

if you want to negociate that extended warranty now is the time. I'd also negotiate a remote start if they have one.

Summary I think you can do better.

On the face that is 5% off msrp, which is average/not bad. Can you get more? No one here knows, and you'll have to negotiate hard to find out.

If you really like it, buy it before someone else does.

Do your prices have a trade involved?

Is the $41.6 factory msrp, or has the dealer packed anything?

Make sure you check all of the tax and licensing laws in your state and the state your buying in. That can be the difference in savings OTD and make it worth it or not. I bought out of state in Maryland whole living in California. Luckily I own property in Baltimore and was able to use it to licensee and register it there paying 6% tax instead of 9% in California, picked it up on my cross country move to South Florida. Saved me almost $1500 because of different tax rates.

I drove 16 hours for mine, well, technically I was out of town on business and saw it for sale, got it before it even arrived to the dealer. But given the lack of nautical blue trails in Miami, I would have went about anywhere to get one; yes, it had to be a blue TEP with KDSS, I would not have purchased anything else.

Good price I think, not the deal of the century, but certainly not getting ripped off. These things sell well, so there will not be too much of a discount.

2016 Trail Edition prices

You haven't said what factory or dealer installed accessories this TEP includes. The accessories you get will affect the price. Often the Premium has a lot of other accessories already included because people who buy them want that stuff.

Go to the Toyota website and do an online build of the car you want. You can see what all of these extras cost. Some of the websites listed below and others will also show you the invoice price of the car and all the accessories.

There are 3 ways I know of to get a lower price on a 4Runner. Someone mentioned Truecar.com above. There's also Cars.com. One of these sites will show you all the 4Runners available within a specified distance of your town with MSRP or asking price listed. You can contact any of them to see what they'd sell that T4R for. If you're a member of AAA you can ask them to put you in touch with dealers who will offer a AAA discount. Costco had the lowest prices when I bought my TE in June, 2015. I had to deal with one particular dealer here in the Los Angeles market but it was worth it. That gave me a price of $800 off of invoice price.

All of these discount prices, except maybe the Costco price, will give you some info to negotiate with.

You can ask for prices on cars that dealers may not have on the lot. If dealers try to find the car you want they will find the same car you're considering right now and try to trade for it with that dealer. You can muddy the waters doing that. You can ask for prices on a special order from Japan. You have to wait 8 to 12 weeks for delivery, but by asking to order the one you want allows you to get a price without having to find the exact car in your area.
