OK here is where I stand on rear fog light.

About 99% of my driving is in NC and VA. So I researched light laws in both states. NC makes no mention of a rear fog light but just basically says any add on light must be operable to pass inspection and of course there are color requirements for front/rear. VA does list a rear fog under add ons, but only says it must be red and meet SAE standards. Neither state has any requirement as to location or when it could or could not be on.

So an add on at the hitch receiver, secured by a hitch pin, that plugs into the 4 pin trailer light connector seems to be the cheapest and also legal in both states. If I go out of those states I can research the law or just unplug and remove it. And if I want to avoid any hassle at inspection, I can remove it at that time as well.

On a couple other places, not this site, I’ve seen where folks have used a Bully CR-007A, the A being the one with a tail and brake light function. They have replaced the 1157 incandescent with a LED 1157. Specifically a JDM Astar Super Bright 5730 Chipset 1157 2057 2357 7528 LED bulbs w/projector, brilliant red. The claim is the tail light function of this LED bulb is about the same brightness as the brake light function of the incandescent. Thus with the tail lights on this light supposedly would be as bright as a brake light.

Are there any thoughts on this LED bulb or another LED bulb that might be even better?

And these might even be a better LED bulb choice as supposedly even brighter.

JDM ASTAR Extremely Bright PX Chipsets 1157 2057 2357 7528 LED Bulbs ,Brilliant Red

JDM ASTAR Extremely Bright Max 50W High Power 1157 2057 2357 7528 LED Bulbs ,Brilliant Red (supposedly brightest) but long putting it about 1/4 inch from the lens.

BTW I've read that red LED behind a red lens is actually brighter than white behind red. Can anyone confirm?

Anyway, plenty of people are doing it and you have to decide what is right for you and the people you’re driving at.

With all that said, MAKE SURE YOUR HEADLIGHTS ARE AIMED CORRECTLY. A Google search will yield tons of great instructions for aiming the low beam projectors appropriately.
General consensus is also that heroin is "not that bad". Plenty of people are doing it and you have to decide if heroin is right for you.

If you do use heroin, MAKE SURE YOU USE A CLEAN NEEDLE.

Consolidated Lighting Info Thread

Seems like there is experience with lighting and retrofitting in this thread. Hopefully someone can answer this.

From what I read the side mount bulb projectors aren't as "good" as rear mounted bulb projectors. Do yall think it is better/worth to do a "proper HID install" and retro fit an "okay" HID projector vs doing a PnP HID kit in the t4r halogen projector that are "decent" for a PnP mod?

Did you plan to cover changing out all the interior lights with LED bulbs? I decided I want to do that but before I spend a bunch of time searching and reading other threads I figured I would check if it would be consolidated here.

Bump, still always looking for suggestions on the innovative interior and exterior lighting upgrades you all are installing. I remember seeing a cool rear hatch solution on a recent thread but I can't remember which it was.

Anyone?

I found that all available LED bulbs are not up to the task for rear hatch and puddle lights, so I made my own bulbs. All described here: My version of Interior LED lights.

Installed cargo bulbs (480 lumens each, true 3W delivered to LED chips), that is total 960 lumens in rear hatch.

Installed puddle lights (450 lumens, true 3W delivered to LED chips) and comparison to biggest you can fit there: JDM ASTAR Extremely Bright 5730 SMD 194 168 2825 W5W T10 LED Bulbs,Xenon White (only 170 lumens).

And here is the comparison between original stock 5W incandescent bulb and my 450 lumens LED bulb.

Consolidated Lighting Info Thread

I won't be having some free time till next week, so just wanted to upload a few pics of the Philips ultinon LEDs 2700k in the fogs.

I'll post better non-iPhone pictures sometime next week. And a better review.

Right side Philips LED. Left stock halogen

Ground output shot

This might have a better output / ground view than the first

Dicked around and put it on low beams. Cutoff is very similar to stock halogens. With fogs on(Philips left / halogen right)

I'll be getting the 6000k Philips LEDs in tomorrow. I'll try to post them in the lows.

Same shot as above but with foglights off.

Shot of the car with Philips LEDs in low and fogs (right) and stock halogens on the (left)

First impression. Seems brighter, I like the look but afraid there might be glare. Driving around seemed like I could "see" more but could be because it's different. But won't know how they work in real situations till I get some rain/fog.

Below is what's making me there might be glare

Philips LEDs in both fogs. Kind of worried if this is glare, but i never really looked at this area with the stock fogs on.

Fogs lights off

Also idk how much this matters but my driveway has a ridiculous incline. Maybe 30 degrees.

I hope this helps.

A good start, but if possible we'd need to see you on level ground and at the appropriate distance from a flat (preferably light colored) wall to truly assess glare, or alternately you can have someone drive your Runner past you so you can see what your own lights are like on the road.

Definitely looking forward to the LED low beam comparison shots. Thanks man.

Yeah next week when I can upload better shots I plan to do that. Found a place in my neighborhood with no direct light, level, and have a wall(fence). I'll get some better shots and comparisons then.

So can someone point me in the right direction for stock fog light bulbs? One of my fog lights is not coming on and I am not looking to upgrade them but just want a replacement bulb. From searching the forum it seems in my 2015 this would be an H16 bulb but I am having trouble finding many of those.

Is H16 a new bulb type? Should I be able to get it at my local autozone or will I have to order online? The few I found online are all over the place in terms of price...
