Yakima roof rack for 2014 SR5....

I have a roof rack for my skis (Yakima ButtonDown 6). I called yakima to see if they had a mount that would fit the factory crossbars. They initially told me that I could use the Universal mighty mounts, but after ordering them they don't work. The Mighty Mount mounts from the top of the rack and the mounting holes on the button down 6 are on the sides of the rack. would something as simple as a U-Bolt slotted through the side and fed under the crossbars work? I dont see why not but just wondering if anyone else has tried. i am out $40 for the universal mighty mounts and want something cheap to figure out how to mount it because I dont feel like buying a new $200 rack. I understand I am compromising security of it being stolen, but am hopeful someone has tried this and it worked.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Red face

Problem is, the Buttondown was discontinued a while back. It's replacement (Powderhound) will take the mounting bolts vertically, so it would work with your universal mounts. They used to sell specific Mighty Mounts that would fit around your stock rack bar and allow you to mount the Buttondown (I had one years ago). So you can get a new(er) ski mount (Powderhound); try to find the right specific Mighty Mount on eBay or somewhere; get new bars; or do what people here do, buy a ski box to protect your boards from theft, road grime and moisture. However, if you hide your boards in a ski box no one knows you ski do the cool factor is lost. Good luck. Those Buttondowns musta seemed like a good deal at the time ....

Yeah it seems pretty stupid. Problem is that they dont manufacture mounts that fit the 2014 stock cross bars (or at least thats what they told me). How much would it cost them to continue to support their products by making plastic clips? Even just one set of universal mounts for the old style horizontal mount locations........it's like Oakley and their decision to ontinuously change things and not support $300 sunglasses with new parts or lenses. I love Yakima products but I won't buy another. I used 6 bucks worth of ubolts from home depot and it's solid as a rock. It won't prevent theft but neither do the cheap flimsy plastic clips that they sell. I will chance it......

Don't blame you. Check my post about Yakima on the general thread. Made in China ...
