ICON Alloys Shield Wheels - ICON is making wheels again, what do you think?
ICON Vehicle Dynamics launched their new wheel brand ICON Alloys at SEMA this past November and pushed it even more with their first wheel launch and race vehicle sponsorship at the King of Hammers race last month. ICON has offered wheels before, but this is on a much larger scale.
What do you guys think about the wheels? A delivered set of 17's is coming in right under $900. ICON has emphasized strength in their design and construction of these wheels.
Below is their first offering - the 17" ICON Shield Wheel. Let us know what you think!
ICON Alloys’ introductory offering to the off-road wheel market is the SHIELD. A reflection of ICON Vehicle Dynamics’ dedication to proper fit and function, the SHIELD has been engineered to maximize caliper clearance and optimize wheel position for un-hindered suspension travel and steering function. With backspace dimensions developed specifically for Toyota and Jeep applications, the SHIELD is the perfect complement to an ICON Vehicle Dynamics suspension system. With a solid set of build features, proven strength, and looks that stand out from the rest, the SHIELD has you covered.
ABOUT ICON ALLOYS:
Developed by ICON Vehicle Dynamics (manufacturers of industry-leading performance suspension systems and shock absorbers) ICON Alloys was established with an objective to provide the off-road market quality wheels built with precision, performance, and strength in mind. Time after time in the development of suspension components the ICON R&D team ran into clearance, fitment, and steering geometry issues that limited the drivability and performance of a given vehicle. As this trend continued, the idea of manufacturing a line of wheels with the “form follows function” approach made more and more sense, and off to the drawing board it was…
PRECISION – Application-specific dimensions optimize vehicle dynamics and tire clearance for many of today’s most popular vehicles.
PERFORMANCE – Engineered to reduce unsprung weight and rotating mass for increased vehicle performance both on and off-road.
STRENGTH – Aluminum alloy construction provides high-strength properties that are well suited for heavy off-road abuse.

Hate the gaudy center cap, hate the gaudy faux beadlock.
Thank God the FN Pros exist. Simple. Attractive design. All black. Why don't more companies follow their insane success on the Toyota line?

While I can't knock products or a company I have no personal experience with I generally am skeptical when they are using profits to create such marketing.I read the 1st 3/4 of the summary and knew nothing about the product. Price does not seem as bad as I expected for an Icon product and I realize plenty of other companies do this same thing called "marketing" but glad to see more options for the Toyota crowd
I am a strong fast man.........can you now give an accurate description of my abilities or describe me?

I saw the wheel first and immediately said to myself that is a wheel that I would expect to see on a Tacoma.
It reminded me of the Mayan calendar. Because every square inch was decorated and had some type of message.

"Form follows function design" with fake bead locks is a major fail.
Just more mall crawler crap IMO.

Knowing Icon, I'm really shocked at the fact that these don't cost $8,000.00

They're not my taste. Look fake, cheesy, and cheap. There is WAY too much trademarking. Kinda screams, "I way into myself and my energy drink" a bit. and the overall design leaves something to be desired. Sorry, but you asked and I want to see you improve! I love my Icon UCAs though, thanks!
It might be better if you were to actually remove the materiel that is your TM on each spoke. Instead of the raised ][ on the spoke, make it a cut out... Or, make a wheel that uses your TM as the spokes in a clever and tasteful design that would be lightweight and strong.
good luck!
EDIT: This is directed to Icon Manufacturing.
