Final Thoughts:
This was truly a plug and play mod using the ARB kit. It is a great beginner mod, and I can honestly say I was proud that I completed something on “My Truck” without an installer/dealer etc. I am not a young kid (have two children and been teaching middle school Earth Science and Physics for the past 12 years), and I have life experience (traveled cross country twice, played Division 1 collegiate baseball, coached and scouted in most parts of the country) but this was a first for me and it really does give a sense of accomplishment. Thanks to all of you mechanically inclined on this forum who keep giving up information and help to those of us who are not as experienced with vehicles yet.

The addiction has officially taken hold!

Differential breather in engine bay

Nice write up. I like that you ran this up into the engine bay. In a couple of photos it's hard to tell which of the several black tubes is the breather tube.

If you ran this over the heat shields you should check the tube again soon and periodically. Those heat shields are for the cat's and exhaust. The shields get hot too.

Nice job. Land Rover essentially does their breather vents similar to this (from the factory); all lines (both diffs, transmission and transfer box) run to the engine firewall just behind the upper intake manifold.

Added second set of Toyo M/Ts at 86900 miles.Added RCI OFF-ROAD Rock Slidersat 84000 miles. Added RCI OFF-ROAD front skid plate at 90,000 miles. Daily driver and so far spending about 30% of time/mileage off-road. Previous truck 2004 Land Rover Discovery that also spent about a third of it's life off-road. I HANG AROUND HERE "THE T4R FASHION FORUM" JUST FOR LAUGHS.
Perfect vehicle as it stands for northern Nevada terrain. Keep it stock - it'll go most anywhere as is.

South Florida gets as much rain as we get here in LA... drove thru one of the worst rainstorms between Boca and Miami a couple of yrs. ago....

Yeah, sometimes the rain here is rediculous. Growing up in Maryland we would get a good number of storms and Nor'easters and hurricane/tropical storm remenants with some flooding, but after living through the drought in California for 3 years before moving here the amount of rain was a shock to the system.

On Friday I was looking at a map of Orlando, Florida regarding a business trip I need to take. There was almost more open water than land.

Its raining here this weekend in So Cal. The first rain we've had in a month. And this is the middle of our short rainy season. This year is better than the last 3 or 4 years of drought.

@Cymon Very nice write up!
Thanks too for the mention! That's the great part that works about this forum. That is that as people write things up others can learn and even build on it and post their own ideas to add.

I used the tubing provided by the ARB kit just at about 6" at the very end to insert it into their breather manifold under the hood. Up here in MD I felt that the cold winters and humid summers would eventually crack the ARB tubing so I used the 1/2" fuel line hose for the long runs underneath the truck.

Congratulations on the new 4Runner! Now go get some scratches and mud underneath! your rig looks too clean down there! lol!

Great/weird timing. I just ordered the ARB breather kit this morning and was hoping to find a thread here for this kit. Great job! Question though, is there enough hose for two runs into the engine bay? I have a TE so there's a breather on the locker. Do I need to buy extra hose, or is it possible to T into the same line going forward to the ARB breather? I know the ARB breather has additional ports to use but if I can get away with running just one hose, I'd rather go that route I'm thinking.

there's enough tubing to run two separate lines to the engine bay (routing it along the driver side frame rail, anyway). some folks do use a t-connector to tie the e-locker into the same line, as you described.
