What about the auto transmission and transfer case? Do they already have breathers on them? Or are they not needed?

Yes, already relocated in the firewall. Here is a post with more info... @Boyds4Runner post #34 gives the breakdown. TRD pro and Trail Edition will be the same. SR5 is the same minus the rear locker (because it doesn't have one).

Rear Diff Breather Mod - Complete!

Good to know. As you said these vehicles are designed to go off road, especially the Trail and Pro and this breather improvement should come stock from the factory. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem. But just like cymon said if in anyway it does get into the diff or locker, dealer has to prove what ever you did (mod) caused the failure.

great thread, I am also puzzled that it does not come standard from the factory!

now how deep do you have to go in water and for how long do you have to be immersed before the water gets into the differential?

Erick.

Thanks you for linking that. I've been digging for like 3 days now trying to find out where the breathers were at, but was coming up empty handed. Everyone kept saying that they were already raised, but no one listed where at.

Simple answer...any height above the differential. Time wise it depends, it has more to do with temperature differences creating a vacuum around the seals then time in the water. Cool differential could be submersed and never have penetration. Hot differential in cold water potentially in a matter of seconds.

Creeper Breather

Food for thought. Got the ARB Diff Breather kit, then my friend that i do SAR with told me of another option on a breather. Its called a Creeper Breather. Simple install, closed system, and allows the pressure to increase and decrease accordingly, no hoses to worry about getting tangled up or worn over time. Said to have no issues and hes been through it all.

So I will place this here, and see what opinions/suggestions. Good option? or?

See post # 27.

If you route your hoses correctly and use quality parts, your hose "worry" issue is unfounded.

YMMV

Once you add the locker breather I don't know if it's worth it. I don't have a locker and have been really happy with the ARB kit so far, but now I'm set up for anything in the future as well.

I think it is a viable option for a trail rig if you have just one breather to worry about. I read through a bunch of threads on here and other sites. Some love the product and some show concerns with it on anything but a trail rig due to thei high temperatures created by long highway driving. Here is one such article.

trail gear creeper breather

If you're thinking about it just make sure you do the research and if you feel comfortable with it then go for it. I did hours and hours and that is why I settled in the ARB kit even though it was a more expensive option. It is what I felt best matched my needs, wants, and mechanical abilities.

Agree!
Cheaper now isn't always cheaper in the long run!
I would rather trust what I did for a diff breather mod or an ARB Kit than use the above pictured device!
The above device just doesn't have the capacity, IMHO, to compensate for the changes that occur within the diff and axles.

Thanks for the link, you already know I have the ARB ready to install, just wanted to throw that out there, and see what the consensus was on it. It was pretty much what i figured.

Thanks man!!!

Pros and cons of routing the diff and locker breathers up to top of gas filler line and terminating into the ARB filter? Just saves a lot of tubing that could be at risk of abrasion / leak.

It will not be iinside of vehicle compartment but just about as high as it would be in the engine compartment. I pulled back the splash guard at rear and it looked awfully clean up there.

Just looking for best option.
