It is rather annoying how the boot comes down after a solid day of flexing the rear suspension. I have always just stretched them back up & thrown another ziptie super tight on there (so far this latest ziptie job has done the trick). But if your boot is jacked up beyond actually doing its job then I would just cut it off & run without one. That way you can just clean it off after it gets caked up with muck again instead of thinking about all the goop in there trapped behind the broken boot...

Another Bilstien 5100 question.
I currently have 5100s on all 4s set at .85 on the front and 10mm OME spacers on the rear. This setup has me with a
- 2in forward rake at the wheel wells
- .5in forward take at the frame
I’d like to set the front at 1.75 but scared of reverse rake.
Anyone have this setup that can chime in?

Another Bilstein 5100 question

Thanks. I read a lot more into this and it seems like a decent split between Jeep guys about running with and without the boot. My reading suggests there is no real difference noted with or without out.

Closer inspection of mine reveals no tear, just the little drain hole. It is extremely full of mud and muck though. So I’ll have to clean it out thoroughly and try the zip tie again. That was how it was previously secured but I’m on the fence about which is worse...trapping a bunch of stuff in there to subject my shock to, or just yanking it so it’s not subject to constant contact with garbage.

New Trd off road 4runner owner here, I'm about to get the 4runner lifted with 5100 set at 2.5 on OEM coils for front and 2" bilstein coil springs on OEM shock for rear, Will I have any rake? Just curious if anyone has this set up? Thanks yall

Any little rock pits on the shock shaft will cause premature wear. I've got so many little pits from rocks on the underside of my suspension (and on every forward facing surface) that I would not run without the boots.

Thanks. I zip tied them back up but I still have a collection of stuff in one of the boots. Without taking the shock off, there’s no way to remove all of that stuff which bothers me. I really don’t know which is worse...possibly catching some chips on the shaft or subjecting the shock to a constant exposure of stuff jammed in the boot.

I originally went with the 1.75 in the front and it was leveled out. But as soon as you add anything in the cargo area it went negative rake. Ended up just setting it to 0.85.

I have no idea what I am doing with suspensions. Ive tried looking around here but just cannot figure this out. Someone help lol.
Bought the car with 3/2 ProComp spacers on it. I hate the rake and the awful rough ride it has and the sway on the highway. I was looking to see if Bilsteins could help...So would I just need 5100s in the front set to 2.5 w/ 1.5 spacers in the rear? I appreciate helping this dumb novice out

The Bilsteins will improve your ride by 95.5% You may even consider a rear spring that's 1.5" taller than stock and leave out the spacer.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread, it's been great as a new 4Runner owner. I've decided to go this route for a mild lift without upsizing tires, needing a diff drop or new UCA's. 1.75 front, 1 rear with some AT tires will be all I need.

What I couldn't really determine from all my reading is the differences between using the stock coils on 1.75 front and spacer on rear vs setting the Bilsteins to 0 and using a 2" coil front and 1" coil rear for the lift?

Any insight is appreciated,
Thanks!

For anyone who has gone with the 5100's and Cornfed spacers in the rear, have any of you encountered a settling in the back where after a while it lowered about ~.5"? I noticed this in mine the other day. It's gone down since first having the components installed earlier this year. Where it was nice and level before, it's now got reverse rake.

Just bought a 19 SR5P, been doing so much research on lift kits, and still can't quite figure out which tire setup will rub and which won't.

I'm wanting a 3 inch suspension lift, and tires that don't look too small so I was hoping for 285/70/17s but some people say they rub while others say they don't.

One key point is I do have the TRD pro wheels.

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated at this point.

Same TRD rims with 285 K02 on stock SR5P suspension rub at full lock. Had to remove front mud flaps, trim front lip of bumper and push in the wheel wells. No more rub at full lock but I still think there is some rub at compression.

Read somewhere that lift does not help with this clearance(assuming at compression since height should help).

Seems like the common setting is either .85 or 1.75 and a rear spacer. Does the 1” spacer leave some of the rake? What about a 3/4 spacer?
