So, read the last 30 pages or so and...

Newbie here! First, what an amazing resource this place is. Just, astounding.

As for the Bilstein thread, this is what I plan on going with, for now, based on all the amazing posts in here, on my 18 TRD Off Road:

FRONT - B8 5100 (Ride Height Adjustable) - Part Number: 24-196499
REAR - B8 5100 - Part Number: 33-187174

Settings: 1.75 front, 1" spacer in the rear (Daystar?)

Stock springs for now

TRD Wheels 17X7
BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 - Size: LT265/70R17

I know it all will fit without rubbing, BUT - anyone with this setup run a slightly larger tire?

You guys rock.

A lot of guys with this setup run either a 275/70 or a 285/70-17. Those are the most common and popular upsizes for tires. Each rig is slightly different so some may run while others may not. You’ll most definitely have to heat and push your fender liners in. I’d say you can easily fit a 275/70 with minimal effort and possible a 285/70 (33”) with some heating or trimming. It all depends on tire too as some run larger than others.

So odd how it varies so much from truck to truck. I've been looking at 2" springs for the back to ditch the pucks. Thanks for the reply.

I just saw the response to this post so thought I’d chime in. I’ve had absolutely no settling at all. The only thing I can think of is perhaps your coils were still very new in which case they’re known to settle slightly when they break in. Any coil could. Beyond that, my truck is exactly as it has always been.

My only regret currently is that I didn’t address the lean when I was doing the lift. I’m waiting for these 5100s to give up so I can justify a big upgrade but they just keep on plugging.

I just ran my 5100s harder than I ever have before and they were nothing short of amazing...literally to the point of surprising me.

I did, comfortably, what my friends who were riding $4000 Icons and King setups were doing.

Now, I’m not even going to pretend that the 5100 is as good as those systems, but I had zero issues. What a great return on investment.

I hate to ask a total newb question but after days of reading suspension threads I'm still lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is my situation:

2020 ORP. Factory suspension/wheels/tires.

I am going to get new tires and wheels so I figured I might as well lift it while I'm doing it. I want to buy the TRD Pro stock black wheels and throw either 285 or 275/70/17 Falken AT3ws on there. I am assuming to do so, I need a bit of a lift.

I am new to off-roading and plan to take about 4-6 trips a year on light to intermediate trails, and some beaches. Billstein 5100s were recommended to me by people who run them and say they are good if you are trying to stay on a budget, which I am. I'm also trying to stay away from spacers, as I value durability. Yes I know that for my use, spacers are probably fine, but I'm a "plan for the worst" type guy.

So how much lift to I need? 1.75? And what do I need to get with the 5100s? Coils? Control arms? The only weight up front will be a c4 fab lo-pro bumper with winch, but down the road. May add 110lb total?

Thanks so much

If you don’t want to use any spacers, you’ll have to either:

Lift only to 85 setting which will probably create clearance issues for anything bigger than 275s

Buy the new Bilstein rear coil that will give you either a 1” or 1.5” lift

Get a spacer for the rear and not worry so much.

I’m using 2.5 front lift with 1.5 rear spacer in the picture above. I wheel more than any of my friends and my ride is still great and nothing has broken over the course of 30,000 miles on this setup.

No UCAs typically necessary but that kind of depends on the rig. Mine aligns within spec.

New Here. Just bought my wife a 2016.
She wants to lift it a little like her last xterra. So probably 2 inches and 285 70r17 tires.

Plan is to use 5100's. : 24-196499 and 33-187174 but what springs. 883 or 884? I have 5100's in my Tacoma with 885 spring that lifted it about 2.5 inches. I've done some reading but get mixed responses about how much each of these springs really lift a 4runner. Also what rear spring do I need or is a 1.5 spacer good enough or will it make for a crap ride?
Is there a 1/4in spacer I need to add to the driverside front to account for a 4runner lean like the Tacoma's have?

Don't ever plan to have bumpers or a winch. Will see some rough fire roads for camping but that's probably it.

Suggestions or advice on my plan so far? My last 4runner was on 35's and had a solid axle, and the Tacoma is just different enough to where I know the same lift combo will yield different results.

I’d just reuse the stock springs for your use, especially. The rear spacer does not make a bad ride at all. I went 2.5 up front and 1.5 rear spacer and I’m really happy with the ride and performance. Springs of course would be better but on my stock coils, I’m really content at the moment. So I wouldn’t worry about making it a crap ride.

I should have added a spacer to level it and will in the near future, as I do have driver’s side lean especially with a full gas tank.

For what you’re wife is using the truck as, this is not only the cheapest route but also the most appropriate. You can spend more and Bilstein just released a new rear coil that will give you the 1-1.5”
Lift but again, with minimal off roading, I really don’t think you need to go that route unless you’re just against using a spacer. See my pictures a few posts up.

Well I currently have 885 springs on my Tacoma. I'm about to install a low pro bumper with a winch so I may need to jump to 886 springs to keep the same ride height. If I do this, then I can trade my 885 springs with a buddy who has some 884 springs that wants a little more lift, and I can then use those 884 springs with new 5100's for my wifes 4runner. That's kind of my game plan.

Just thought I'd share my setup (thanks to a buddy for giving me the rear coils and the reason why I went this direction).

We tow a small trailer so wanted some factory rake, with some added clearance and more planted drive. Also want to keep stock size tire since its my daily driver.

5100 all four corners, front set to 1.75 and rear has an Eibach 1" spring (E30-82-071-01-02). This is a TRD OR with KDSS.

Was stiff for the first 150-200 miles but now feels perfect (almost regretted it but I think everything needed to settle in a bit).

First pic has before on top and after below. And yes I need new shoes

What size tire are you running. Do you think you can run 285's with this set up?

Right now still on the stock tires.

I'm planning on putting stock size KO2's or Duratracs. Reasoning is its my DD and we tow a small trailer so I want to keep the MPG's and power as close to factory as possible. Would MAYBE go 275's if there was a good load C rated tire available but right now that's not the case.

IF I were to go 285's, I'd probably run 5100's on 0 setting with a proper lift spring to bring it up to 2.5 in the front and add new UCA's.

Now whether or not I could fit them as is, not sure. Some have said they fit stock. Some say minimum 3" lift with BMC.

That probably didn't help you at all LOL... end rambling
