Another Bilstein 5100 question

I'm really enjoying my 4Runner so far. I've been looking around on the forum if I need spacers in the rear if I install 5100's in the front and back. I know that there are millions of comments out there about it but I can't seem to find it. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction of where to find the information? Also, what will be the best height to set them for a DD and a little bit of off-roading? I want a little lift and I'm thinking around 1.75 all around.

Thanks

Best for a DD is stock ride height and stock suspension.

Only the fronts are adjustable. Most people put them at .85" (bottom clip) if not lifting the rear.

Another Bilstein 5100 question

Yep. 1.75 front with 1 inch rear spacers gives it a nice stance (lessens the factory rake), but doesn't really affect DD (that I've noticed anyhow).

My buddy just installed some 5100's and NO spacers or other lifts. He set the front to the max height setting (2.2 I think) & he has a nearly perfect level truck. He's on 275 KO2's and stock wheels and it looks amazing. I thought for sure he'd have some reverse rake with the 2.2 setting up front but he doesn't, not even with his hitch bike rack and mountain bikes sitting on them (which would pitch the nose up additionally).

Because of this, I'm sold on doing the max height setting for the 5100's up front and not doing any spacer in the rear. It looks really good on his truck and as I said... level.

To each his own; you are more than welcome to try/do it.... But I'm telling you, somethings not right with that. Either he isn't on the highest setting, or something else is going on. TONS of us have all done this mod, and you WILL HAVE NEGATIVE rake with that setup. Heck, there is approx 1/4 inch negative rake at the 1.75 front setting and nothing in the rear (tho the fenders will look level).

The pics below are 1.75 front (which is NOT the highest setting) and stock rear... And it's level to the eye, but slight negative frame rake.

Again, do as you please, it's your rig, your time, your money. But with a completely stock 4Runner, 5100s at all four corners, and the fronts set to the highest, you will not be level.

you will be nose high with the max setting. I was slightly nose high even with 1.5" spacers in the back. I swapped to SAW coils and I have about .5" rake again

Good to know man, maybe I'll stick with the 1.75 when I finally get mine. I can't stand the rake that these have from the factory, It's so bad! But yeah I hear what you're saying on all of that, I just wanted to share that the 2.2 front setting on my friends SR5 didn't cause any truly noticeable reverse rake

Thank you guys for all of the input. Did the guys that installed cornfed 1 in spacers in the back also install the rear bilsteins? @mybabydaddy @codyHTX

Yes. The pics I showed above were before I added the rear spacers.

Something I learned lifting my 4th Gen is that changing the vehicle roll axis can also drastically change handling characteristics (Google it if you don't know what that is). If you lift the front too much without compensating with a rear lift, the roll axis is changed and it will affect your on-road manners. When I do Bilsteins, I'll either do 0.85 front and no lift in back, or 1.75 front and 1" spacer in back.
